Yes, the Solo (a monopod) is Joby's latest Gorillapod. We were showing some early prototypes at PMA. This product is intended for studio applications, such as mounting lights/ flashes, holding fabrics, microphones, etc. It will come with a variety of clips. Should be available in a few months on our website (www.joby.com). Thanks for your interest!

Wow, that sounds really useful. Looking forward to it. I sometimes use my current one in some of those ways already, and the monopod form will be even better.

are there any plans to release it in the SLR / SLR zoom format as well? (occasionally I find something I'd like to attach to that isn't QUITE small enough to wrap my SLR zoom around comfortably.)

Actually, the segments of the Solo are the same dimensions as the segments of the SLR-Zoom!

@MHJohnston: For bigger poles get yourself some velcro or rubber bands/belts to fix the GP SLR Zoom on such objects.
I.e. cheap rubber bands with hooks/clamps at both ends do work pretty good. These rubber thingies are i.e. available in every motorcycle shop to attach bags to your two wheeler.
For very exposed situations they are also very good for securing your 'installation'.
