Codex Alimentarius is not a phrase you are likely to hear or read in the mainstream media. The phase simply means ‘Food Code’ or ‘Food Law’, yet the 27 committees of the International Codex Alimentarius Commission are advancing global legislation which will effectively eradicate Organic Farming, in favour of irradiated GM/GE products; and will destroy the Complementary & Alternative Health Community by making it illegal to prescribe, or even recommend, nutritional supplements, vitamins, herbs or other natural health remedies.
This pernicious attack on our Health Freedoms is being driven by the corporatocracy of Big Farmer & Big Pharma … yet few people are aware of the Codex steam train coming down the tracks at an alarming rate!

The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) - was promoted by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) as a centre of excellence for research and training in genetic engineering and biotechnology for the benefit of developing countries. The Centre, directed by Francisco E. Baralle in three units: Trieste (Headquarters), New Delhi and Cape Town, comprises a network of 38 Affiliated Centres (national laboratories located in developing countries).
A comparison .
Eugenics is a scientific field involving the controlled breeding of humans in order to achieve desirable traits in future generations.Eugenics was at its height in the early decades of the 20th century and was largely abandoned with the end of World War II. At its zenith, the movement often pursued pseudoscientific notions of racial supremacy and purity.
Eugenics was not confined to any one country or culture, but was practised around the world and was promoted by governments, and influential individuals and institutions. Its advocates regarded it as a social philosophy for the improvement of human hereditary traits through the promotion of higher reproduction of certain people and traits, and the reduction of reproduction of certain people and traits.Today it is widely regarded as a brutal movement which inflicted massive human rights violations on millions of people. The "interventions" advocated and practised by eugenicists involved prominently the identification and classification of individuals and their families, including the poor, mentally ill, blind, 'promiscuous women', homosexuals and entire "racial" groups——such as the Roma and Jews——as "degenerate" or "unfit"; the segregation or institutionalisation of such individuals and groups, their sterilization, their "euthanasia", and in the worst case of Nazi Germany, their mass extermination. The practices engaged in by eugenicists involving violations of privacy, attacks on reputation, violations of the right to life, to found a family, to discrimination are all today classified as violations of human rights. The practice of negative racial aspects of eugenics, after World War II, fell within the definition of the new international crime of genocide, set out in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
Beginning in the 1980s, the history and concept of eugenics were widely discussed as knowledge about genetics advanced significantly. Endeavors such as the Human Genome Project made the effective modification of the human species seem possible again (as did Darwin's initial theory of evolution in the 1860s, along with the rediscovery of Mendel's laws in the early 20th century). The difference at the beginning of the 21st century was the guarded attitude towards eugenics, which had become a watchword to be feared rather than embraced.
Suggestions and ideas
A few scientific researchers such as psychologist Richard Lynn, psychologist Raymond Cattell, and scientist Gregory Stock have openly called for eugenic policies using modern technology, but they represent a minority opinion in current scientific and cultural circles. One attempted implementation of a form of eugenics was a "genius sperm bank" (1980–99) created by Robert Klark Graham, from which nearly 230 children were conceived (the best known donors were Nobel Prize winners William Shockley and J.D.Watson). In the U.S. and Europe, though, these attempts have frequently been criticized as in the same spirit of classist and racist forms of eugenics of the 1930s. Because of its association with compulsory sterilization and the racial ideals of the Nazi Party, the word eugenics is rarely used by the advocates of such programs.

There is to be a 'truth event' in London in April 09 covering some of this with several guests including the suppressed GMO scientist Dr Arpad Pusztai from the Roslin Institute who noticed problems with mice fed GM potatoes a few years ago.He was largely ignored by the NZ Commission on GM around 2003. See UK website 'the alternateview' above ^ , for more details.

The bills in the US Congress that will industrialize all farming and be the death of organic food are not identical, as I'd been told. They are each different and each bad in its own special way and they are still coming: S.425, HR 875, HR 814, and now Dingel's, HR 759 which I just heard may win the prize for the worst (but the competition is stiff so who knows).
Four bills. That's an impressive steamroller Monsanto and industrial ag have got going, with small farms in its path.
So, who cares? It's just food, isn't it? Linn Cohen-Cole

GMO and medicinal laws: how long will we be free?
9th April 2009
Watch out for the pro-GMO spin.
Just when we think democracy in Europe has been more or less extinguished by the centralised government of the European Union in Brussels, we see some flickers of light in the seeming darkness. One such flicker occurred on March 2nd when the environment ministers of all but 4 of Europe’s 27 Member States voted to support the rights of Austria and Hungary to maintain their ban on the planting of Monsanto and Bayer’s GM maize crops. They did this in full contravention of the desires of the European Commission and the World Trade Organization—the policeman of the Codex Alimentarius Commission which develops global guidelines that by and large are built around the interests of the world’s largest food producers.
The environment ministers did the decent thing because they have seen the data and know just how risky GM/GMO can be. They chose to ignore the spin coming from the biotech companies that incessantly try to tell us—with little or no supporting evidence—that GM is required to meet world food needs in the coming years. The ministers responded to democracy by expressing the view of the majority of the European public as well as the small band of international, independent scientists who have managed to continue studying the adverse effects of genetically modified (GM) foods on laboratory animals, farm animals and humans.
On 5th April, Dr Robert Verkerk from the ANH gave a keynote address at Natural Products Europe on the subject of GM crops and foods and the influence of Codex in trying to globalise GM. The presentation specifically addressed the European natural products sector, but it has much wider applicability. Rob Verkerk stressed the fact that the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barrosso and a small band of Prime Minister’s of EU Member States, hand in hand with the biotech corporations like Monsanto and Bayer, were really putting the pressurise not only their environment ministers but also the public. Rob Verkerk's talk can be heard by anyone with internet access — see the links below. It is broken down into 5 roughly 10 minute, youtube-friendly segments.
It is critical now that the people of Europe appreciate just how much pro-GM spin they will face in the coming weeks and months. Because of this, it is more important than ever that they stay up to speed on the known and unpredictable risks associated with GM crops which were planted on 125 million hectares worldwide in 2008.
There’s even more work to be done in the USA, the country which has given itself over to GM to a larger extent than any other. Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China and India are also significant players, although their usage is still dwarfed by the USA which is presently responsible for cultivating around half of the world’s GM crops.
Being made a criminal for publishing known facts
But apart form the rays of light, we also see further restrictions of our freedoms. Last week, the European Court of Justice passed judgment on a case referred to it by a Danish regional court which had prosecuted a journalist, Frede Damgaard, after he had simply recorded known facts about a rose hip product on his website. The regional court made Mr Damgaard a criminal because he breached European medicinal law which prevents anyone making a claim for a product’s capacity to prevent or treat disease—unless of course it’s been licenced as a drug.
But the wayward Danish court’s decision has now been turned into a European precedent. Despite the sensible, much more balanced approach adopted by the Advocate General in the case, who argued strongly for the need to maintain freedom of the press, the judges responsible for the final ruling decided to ignore much of this advice. The Court has ruled that a journalist—or in fact any third party—that writes (or even speaks) about the ability of a natural health product to prevent or treat disease is in breach of the law, assuming the product isn’t a licenced drug. That person—like Frede Damgaard—could be made a criminal. And with this ruling, how many journalists will continue to act freely when reporting on natural products used by millions….?

Ajinomoto a Japanese company make the most of this 'product' Aspartamine. See Italian study from 2005 showing like the suppressed GM potatoes study (by Arpad Pusztai)
it can cause cancers in lab rats , internal organ damage or leukaemia...
Árpád Pusztai (September 8, 1930) is a Hungarian-born protein scientist who has spent most of his career, from 1968-1998, at the Rowett Research Institute in Aberdeen, Scotland. He is considered the world's foremost expert on plant lectins, and is the author of 270 papers and three books on the subject.[1][2]
In 1998 Pusztai publicly announced that the results of his research show eating genetically modified potato causes harm to rats, leading to his dismissal from the institute. The resulting controversy over the dismissal and the validity of his research's conclusions became known as the Pusztai affair.
In 2005, he received the Whistleblower Award from the German Section of the International Association of Lawyers against Nuclear Arms (IALANA) and the Federation of German Scientists (VDW).

C E S B sent a message to the members of No 2 Codex Alimentarius! 8/4/2009 from UK ?.

Subject: The Camera is Mightier than the Baton
Evening all....Just to say
Always take a camera to anything involving the police. After the numerous excerpts of footage of the wholly unprovoked and savage attack on Ian Tomlinson, a testosterone fuelled force of riot police may think twice about letting contempt and aggression run amok.
Either that or they'll do you and take your camera, but if there are enough cameras the daylight of truth will hunt them down..Download any sentimental images onto a hard drive first and hit the streets....We've always known the score, that it's always gone on, and even when you saw a press camera film the most outrageous scenes, it somehow never made out of the editing suite.....
Only now...We are the media...

Breaking the U.N.'s Code X

The Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), based in Rome, Italy, is an international organization jointly created in 1962 by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) of the United Nations “allegedly” to protect the health of consumers with guidelines for food standards.
Codex Alimentarius may present the greatest disaster for our food supply — and thus for our health — this country has ever seen, and if not stopped is likely to be implemented starting in 2011.
Let me repeat that, the greatest disaster to our health if not stopped, starting in 2011.
The Codex and regulations affecting our food sovereignty go back to 1962. Fortunately, in 1994 Congress passed the Dietary Supplements Health and Education Act (DSHEA), which for the moment preserved the definition of vitamins, minerals and herbs as foods.
Without congressional oversight the U.S. will move towards Canada and Mexico where supplements are considered drugs, not foods. Codex if implemented will reverse DSHEA and the U.S. will no longer treat dietary supplements as foods, but as toxins.
Let me repeat that, Codex treats foods as toxins!
And of course Codex, Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) and the “World According to Monsanto”, required viewing, are all related. The U.S. and the Codex commission do not require labeling of GMOs. For 18 years Norway, Switzerland, Russia, Japan, the European Union and virtually all African countries have fought the U.S. unsuccessfully to require labeling of GMOs. The U.S. erroneously considers GMOs equal to non-GMOs based solely on a 1992 Executive Order from then Skull and Bones-president George H. W. Bush.
If Codex is finalized, the FDA will use their automatic weapons to outlaw more than raw almonds and tryptophan.
In Ohio a food co-op was raided Gestapo style by the USDA because they “didn’t have a business license”.
Is the FDA looking out for consumers? Half of the 198 new drugs the FDA approved from 1976 to 1985 had to be withdrawn or relabeled because they caused unexpected side effects. Predictably no one at the FDA withdrew Donald’s Aspartame (Equal, NutraSweet), a deadly carcinogen we can’t avoid because it’s an additive in just about every food we eat.
Looking out for consumers, the FDA?... Unlikely.
The story gets even more interesting when you find out Nazi Germany's notorious I.G. Farben cartel is behind Codex and the proposals that would drastically curtail our healthcare freedoms.
The UN has put out dozens of public documents calling for an 80% world population reduction. Catherine Bertini, the head of the UN food programs in 1995, paraphrased the famous Kissinger statement, “Food is power. We use it to change behaviour.“
And although the effects of Codex are (potentially ) devastating and will result in humans dying from starvation and preventable diseases from under nutrition any claims that WHO or FAO have released epidemiological projections are untrue.
New World Order, depopulation? Stan Monteith, MD and others think so.
“None Dare call it Genocide” is a video lecture by Dr. Monteith who believes Codex is part of a New World Order (NWO) agenda to reduce the population by 80%. Why else would there be a worldwide push to re-classify our food as a toxin?
Conspiracy theorists, in particular F.W. Engdahl, the leading analyst of the New World Order, expect a de-population event to rid the planet of 5 billion “useless eaters”. The 'Illuminati' and the One World governors need only 500 million of us for slaves when they take over the world.
Never heard of “Codex Alimentarius”? Now that’s unusual because Codex is an “open secret”. You would expect the leading opponents of Global Government and the New World Order to be shouting Codex at the top of their websites that reach millions.. every day.
F.W. Engdahl writes for Professor Michel Chossudovsky's Centre for Research on Globalization (CRG), an independent research and media group of writers, scholars and activists committed to curbing the tide of "globalization”. You can find hundreds of articles by both Chossudovsky and Engdhal on Globalization, New World Order, and the Economic Crisis, but as of February 1, 2009 a Google Search of CODEX of Global Research Articles (2001- 2008) resulted in... No matches found.
Let me repeat that, a search for articles about the greatest disaster to our food supply — and thus for our health — this country has ever seen, scheduled to take effect on December 31, 2011, produced No matches found on a website that reaches 30,000 unique visitors per day. Now, more than ever, readers should demand more coverage on Codex from these popular websites.
Similarly, Jeff Rense has the popular UFO talk and political intrigue conspiracy site, www.facebook.com/l/;Rense.com. But out of the thousands of articles about every conspiracy known to man, alien and reptilian alike you can find only two: and they don’t even begin to address the seriousness of the situation.
What about the Vitamin and Supplement Trade associations? Monsanto, Big Pharma, Chema and Agra have convinced them “Codex is a non-issue”, and that they will actually gain market share when Codex is implemented.
Or the muckraking leftist newsletter edited by Alexander Cockburn and Jeffrey St. Clair www.facebook.com/l/;Counterpunch.org? You guessed it…
Your search - Codex Alimentarius on Counterpunch- did not match any documents.
So who is raising awareness about this issue?
John C. Hammell of International Advocates for Health Freedom and Ian Crane, an ex oil field executive. Ian lectures and writes on U.S. Hegemony and the NWO agenda for control of Global Resources.
Since 2007 Ian has focused his efforts on the excesses of Codex Alimentarius. Ian is an independent researcher and of course self-funded. No banner ads torment you on his website. He observes:
“After spending the past twelve months investigating Codex Alimentarius, I am deeply disturbed by the almost total lack of awareness (or even interest) with regard to the implications of this pernicious global Commission, particularly amongst those most affected by the excesses of this restrictive legislation.”
That’s no surprise because his website www.facebook.com/l/;Ianrcrane.co.uk is traffic ranked: 2,381,595 (very few visitors per day, Yahoo is ranked #1 and Google is #2).
Ian has warned that the effects of the "pernicious" legislation, starting in 2011, would be devastating, and he believes that, "without a shadow of a doubt", there is a plot by major food and pharmaceutical companies to see that the Codex proposals become international law… and so should you.
Codex is laying siege to our freedom of choice, let’s try and stop it.
Normally I don’t recommend those “take action” campaigns: the ones that tell us, it's not too late, click-here to importune our “elected” representatives with emails and faxes.
But Codex is different.
The inconvenient truth for our elected representatives, their families and staff is, they Have to Eat and take vitamins and supplements… just like us. So go ahead and email, fax and phone, this is one email campaign that might just work.
It's going to come down to a massive rebellion. The DSHEA law that kept the FDA off our backs was passed because millions and millions of letters were sent to people in Congress demanding health freedom.
International Advocates for Health Freedom website has a “take action” page.
Think buying organic will help you? Well, not as much as you think, because the U.S. currently allows for up to ?10% of GMO contamination of organic foods (the highest of any country in the world, most permit 0.1%, and zero tolerance is the best).*******
If you really want to make a difference: support local organic Farmers, Grow your own Food, and of course...Watch: “How Cuba Survived Peak Oil”
Because guess what?... They can’t stop us from growing our own food. It’s that simple.******

Good to hear the post punk musical artist Jaz Coleman of 'Killing Joke' talking about this and the new songs .This from the a 32 yrs past in music on a 'Quietus' interview played on NZ Radio National.

JC: The great cull (song) . It's a reality. I urge everybody to research Codex Alimentarius. Under the new food code all the vitamins and nutrients are being taken out of our food that goes on supermarket shelves. We're creating a sick population. It's Malthusian. These things are happening. Look - the Global 2000 report that (then US President) Carter signed comes to the conclusion that we should maintain the population preferably around the 500 million mark. We're in excess of six billion or whatever it is. What they don't mention is how we're going to get there. Of course there's been the predictable players like Kissinger Associates, who have always recommended instigating wars in population density centres, which is logical – if you want to look at rationalism I can see this, if you follow Malthusian thinking.
The thing is, once you start going down this path you start losing our humanity. That's why we must reject all forms of Malthusianism. We must educate people about population. I don't know, it's a difficult one. Forced sterilisation? No, it should be voluntary. Neither should there be a premium put on raising children anymore. We can reduce the population effectively without slaughter. When we start extending life through biotechnology and nanotechnology, we'll all eventually lose our ability to feel as human beings and our souls will leave. We're entering a period where human and artificial intelligence will be inseparable. The repercussions of this will be catastrophic and unthinkable. It's happening. There's no spirit of revolution or rebellion left. The people are tired. Fluoride in the water and dopamine increased in the brain, to chem-trails and other evil machinations, so people have no will left. They're kept busy, busy, busy, courtesy of shock techniques that were perfected by the Tavistock Institute, part of Sussex University – if you keep putting the human condition through a series of shocks you have a malleable population. That's what's happening to us, and that's why the music of Killing Joke is so significant in rewiring. It's homeopathic. To be immune to the sickness, we have to take homeopathic doses of the sickness and that's what we do at Killing Joke concerts.

TQ: Along with 'The Great Cull', this is the heaviest song on the record, recalling Rammstein in its brutal, monomaniac simplicity. Jaz's vocals are at their most bile-filled.
JC: I remember we were visited by John Hicklenton, ........................
Lyrically it was inspired by my eldest daughter who turned me on to the work of Jean Ziegler. She goes to these G8 demonstrations, and showed me what was going on with groups like Black Blood, very militant kinds of people. I'm more concerned with food supply. Yes, there must be change. But staples are going up so fast. Food prices are predicted to go up 40% in the next couple of years. People's wages are being slashed. Where is it leading to? You don't have to be Einstein to work it out. It mustn't be allowed to get to that. What is required is a sweeping green communism.

a member writes ..." just on the wikipedia site looking up "potato" - and under a GM subsection, not a word about the protests or why the potatoes were pulled from various products, or the infamous Árpád Pusztai potato scandal- it was fairly positive and evasive, and made me wonder who wrote it... and even though there is a wikipedia entry on Árpád Pusztai as a topic of its own, it doesn't connect to the potato wiki section - very odd "
I agree who controls the media or Wiki entries they need to hear the balance from the gmo apologists out there.

If the U.S. government has its way, a powerful intergovernmental group you've probably never heard of may soon prevent anyone anywhere from labeling genetically modified (GMO) food.

Medical and big pharmaceutical company hysteria ?
New EU regulations on herbal medicines come into force
By Dominic Hughes Health correspondent, BBC News
Herbal medicines New regulations mean many herbal remedies will no longer be available over the counter.
* Herbal remedies face licence rule
* Herbal weight loss pill warning
* 'Unsafe' drug found in herbal tea
New European Union rules come into force today banning hundreds of traditional herbal remedies.
The EU law aims to protect consumers from possible damaging side-effects of over-the-counter herbal medicines.
For the first time, new regulations will allow only long-established and quality-controlled medicines to be sold.
But both herbal remedy practitioners and manufacturers fear they could be forced out of business.
To date, the industry has been covered by the 1968 Medicines Act, drawn up when only a handful of herbal remedies were available and the number of herbal practitioners was very small.
But surveys show that around a quarter of all adults in the UK have used a herbal medicine in the past two years, mostly bought over the counter in health food shops and pharmacies.
The regulations will cover widely used products such as echinacea, St John's Wort and valerian, as well as traditional Chinese and Indian medicines.
Traditional Herbal Remedy logo Herbal remedies that have been approved for sale under the new regulations will come with this logo
But safety concerns have focused on the powerful effects of some herbal remedies, as well as the way they interact with conventional drugs.
For example, St John's Wort can interfere with the contraceptive pill, while ginkgo and ginseng are known to have a similar effect to the blood-thinning drug warfarin.
From now on only products that have been assessed by the Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) will be allowed to go on sale.

FINALLY !
This is an e-mail from (GMWatch). You may also find the following link interesting: www.gmwatch.org/latest-listing/1-news-items/13340-gm-food...
After 16 years of bitter negotiations, the world reaches agreement on the labelling of genetically modified foods.
While consumer groups around the world celebrated the July 5 United Nations Codex agreement on labelling genetically modified (GM) foods, the biotechnology industry argued that the final document achieved nothing new. In fact, industry came close to denying there was an agreement at all. After 16 years of negotiations, these two radically different responses to the final document can be explained by the high stakes involved, arguably the future of global markets for GM foods.
It is voluntary and now technically "guidance" rather than "guidelines," but the new international agreement on labelling GM foods, two decades in the making, was bitterly fought over. The biotechnology industry, with its initial power base in the U.S. and Canada, is adamantly opposed to labelling, afraid that, given the choice, consumers around the world will reject GM foods, as seen in Europe. The stakes were so high that the U.S. government – with varying support from Canada and a handful of food exporting countries, including Argentina and Australia – continually tried to stop the Codex negotiations altogether. After two decades, however, food safety regulators from around the world finally agreed upon a few words that have huge global import.
The Codex Alimentarius Commission is the global food standards-setting body of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization. Most importantly, it is the reference point for food standards under the World Trade Organization (WTO) and is used in settling trade disputes. According to consumer groups, the new Codex document provides nations with protection from trade challenges over GM food labelling laws.
