it is possible to achieve such interesting results with Texturing. Even the picture you referred has been texturized as far as I can say. Here is a good tutorial to try Texturing with Gimp. You will need to mask your subject and texturize the background. I just tried on your picture only to demonstrate to you.

You might like the results better if you Separate luminance from color and then work on the color.
I did a couple of quick takes on this (I used my Separating Luminance script). In the first one, I applied a wide, heavy Unsharp Mask to the color layer.

In the second, I did Plasma Clouds, like you, but then I separated the luminance out of them and threw it away, so I had a luminance-neutral layer of plasma cloud color in Grain Merge mode. I set its opacity to 50%.

I don't know whether either of these approaches what you're looking for, but I think the principle of keeping the color luminance-neutral could be helpful.

{ p r a n a v } your effects looks very good, but I can't reach this tutorial (already put request to join the group) and I can't find it anywhere else, could you tell us steps to perform? Someone could find this thread next year and it would be nice to him to know how to achieve this effect.
Shelly and Roy I will try, I already know LAB and grain stuff.

Below is a youtube video on texturing. I feel the first tutorial link I posted above is the best.

You can download the XCF file I created at below location to see how I achieved the effect.

hope you find it useful.

you might try iwarping your plasma layer for more interesting textures. I think this would also look better with a faux-film effect first. maybe add some darker tones to match her expression.

{ p r a n a v } could you tell me which method you used to separate the model from the background? I see your mask and it looks perfect. I usually try to convert picture to grayscale with channel mixer to maximize contrast between model and background but still there are some errors and I need to fix them by hand. How you did it with this photo?

mrocznyelf it was not very difficult.
- created a new transparent layer and I painted black on her (on new layer). i used paint brush with the soft head in various sizes. had to use eraser (again soft head) a couple of times.
- once finished right click on this painted layer and click on "Alpha to Selection" which selects the shape of her.
- then go to the base layer (while the ants marching on her shape) and cut/copy her and paste in another new transparent layer.
Hope this is what you wanted to know.
