I'll try it, alebedenko, but your link does not work. It should be: andrey.lebedenko.googlepages.com/dm-gen-1.rar

jeffegg2 "It just so happens, the G'mic toolbox has just this tool...." -- yes, I've just found it too. However, as you can see the way reflection looks is quite different ;-) This is primarily because there is no perspective correction nor horizon blur.

Thanks - This looks nice. I recall once doing a displacement map for water reflections manually, and it was rather fiddly.

ok, got the unrar to work, but how did you use the displacement map to create that photo? all it did for me was render a new image of green water....

Ok. Quick tutorial. :-)
1. Crop your photo, so there will be only area which you would like to reflect.
2. Increase the vertical size of canvas to 200%. Keep image in topmost area. (Remember the original size of the image)
3. Duplicate layer
4. Mirror the layer vertically
5. Align it vertically in the way it will look like "perfect" reflection
6. Duplicate layer. Clean it.
7. Create the displacement map using original sizes from #2
8. Copy and paste displacement map into layer #6
9. Go to "Perfect Reflection" layer (created at #5). Use Filters -> Map -> Displace and specify the layer with DM in drop-down menus. Adjust X and Y displacement in a way that Y = 2*X
10. Add more layers with effects like desaturation, soft ligh (black gradient), colour (dark blue) etc.

May be MUCH quicker:
There is a very useful script to mirror , that take care of 1,2,3,4, 5 and 6 steps automatically.
(step 5 is very critical i get good results only zooming at 200% , often allignement issues get noticed only after flattening, and then is to late ,only UNDO will help )
Is from Saulgoode "mirror-dup.scm" you may found here
flashingtwelve.brickfilms.com/GIMP/Scripts/
if you have FX-Foundry pack is, you have it already in the layer submenu, mirror can be done horizontally, vertically or in both direction.
When using it i suggest to chose "create new image" option,

Yes, that's a very good idea!
I would also add a motion blur step (90 degrees) against mirrored layer.

maybe also a option for a slightly change of hue, toward bluish,(with a preset or in Interactive mode ) for the mirrored part may be useful.
water reflex are usually a bit more bluish then the original
well thinking better is not too important since is easy and quick doing manually after..
thank for the script
