I know that Rolf uses a tablet, he says he is going to do a tutorial on using one. You can find him at www.meetthegimp.org

Hi! I have a Graphire, and XP on my notebook. Gimp works very well with them (just had to enable "pressure" for the tablet in Gimps' options).
Have you checked the preferences for Input devices in Gimp?
Maybe is it using your Bamboo as a mouse?

rafalweb, could be due to a bug in GTK+ for windows: www.gimptalk.com see discussion thread below the article....but it does not conclude with a solution...

I have the same issue with my Bamboo Fun Medium. Other than the freeze-ups it is a great tool. But, the freeze-ups are too frequent to ignore - annoying.
Haven't researched a solution for a few weeks.

Sorry, no solution yet. But, a work-around that will let you use the pen reliably but without pressure sensitivity. No good for me.

Bummer! This sucks to hear. It doesn't sound like it is going to be fixed anytime soon. How are the programs that come with the Fun?

I don't think that any programs come with it...just the driver.

I didn't install anything but the driver and config software. Worked right away.
The tablet is so much more useful than mouse or touch-pad. I am disappointed that a graphics program as good as the GIMP doesn't have developers with time to put towards a solution.
For me, tapping repeatedly when the problem crops up gets the pen working again.

Oh, the Bamboo Fun comes with three programs that look like they could still make this a worth while purchase if they work out well enough. (PS Element 5, nik color efex 2 and some sort of paint pro or something like that)

(grin) I guess I'm just stuck on using the GIMP. Didn't even remember the other software until you mentioned it, chimphappyhour! Still, I'm not planning on installing it as the GIMP has all the functionality I currently need and my computer is bloated enough!

Just to keep this alive, the Wacom Forum indicates that a user with programing experience has been looking through the problem code. Their last update was Feb 10th.
Perhaps there is hope yet? I can't give up my tablet now, but am getting quite peeved at losing pen functionality on a regular basis. Move to Photoshop? I'm not that desperate. yet.

All I can say is that there are no such problems on Linux and I have had no reason/opportunity to try my Fun on windows. Most likely the blame is on the GTK part of event handling not in Gimp itself. The Linux part had some bugs influencing inkpen usage with latest X but I and a GTK dev managed to trace those down and they were fixed.

I picked up one the small Bamboo Fun tablets. So far, I've only attached the tablet and let Vista load its own drivers. It seems to work ok, but without using the Bamboo software disk, I don't get the function of the buttons and such. I'll see if things change when I install the Bamboo software.

Yup, sure enough. As soon as I installed the software on the Wacom disk, it reacted just as everyone said. So, I suspect it is something on that driver disk.

Ugh! This thing slowed down my boot up with Vista! I uninstalled the drivers and all and everything is back up to speed. How annoying. I'll probably retry using just the drivers Vista loads and see if it all comes down to that disk.

Good news!
A solution has been posted to Bugzilla. Look at the most recent postings.
There's a 'modify-source-code-recompile' fix, and a binary-hack fix posted. I did the binary-hack fix using HexEdit and ran through a half dozen pictures in GIMP - no tablet problems encountered at all.
