16 Apr 09 - This group was created to help photographers who are new to Gimp (or even to image editing in general). There are a few lessons posted in the "Discussion" section, search "Exercise" to find them.

The group pool should be a place for learning as well, so entries are moderated. All images added to our group pool must have a description of how you used Gimp to create it or a question on Gimp that pertains to the photo. Images without such a description will be denied.

About Gimp_Beginners (read pool rules)

This is an extension of the Photography_Beginners yahoogroup, but you do not have to be a member of the Yahoogroup to join our Flickr group.

This group was created to help people new to using Gimp learn how to use it to enhance their photography. Gimp is sometimes referred to as "free Photoshop" because it's just about as powerful as Photoshop, but it's free and open source. You can download it here:

We have active topics and tutorials in the "Discussion" section, and our group pool is now moderated so that entries are educational as well. If you'd like to submit a photo to the pool PLEASE NOTE that you must add a description of what was done in Gimp to achieve your result. Pool submissions are moderated, so photos without such a description will not be approved.

Advanced users of Gimp are very much welcomed to join, post tutorials of their own, and help answer the questions of those who are just starting out.
