About The friends of Gildersome tunnel

The friends of Gildersome tunnel was setup by a couple of likeminded people. As you all know the portal of Gildersome tunnel has become heavily overgrown by tree's and cluttered with rubbish over the past 40 years since closure.

A couple of us have already met up to clear trees from the portal... This has improved things a lot but there is still lots of work to be done down there.

Our overall aim is to totally clear up the portal by chopping down tree's overhanging the portal which are preventing the sunlight from hitting it. We would also like to do a better job of unblocking the drain so that it will handle flash floods better.

We plan on arranging group sessions down at the tunnel to help clear things up a little.

Gildersome tunnel is an amazing tunnel to explore. Lets clear up the presentation of the outside of the tunnel! - a tunnel to be proud of!
