About Ghost Bike

As the voluntary group who started Ghost bikes writes on its website - the white-painted bicycles at the sign of the crash act as a reminder of the tragedy which has taken place and support a campaign for cyclists' right to safe travel.

The Guardian have long been following the Ghost Bikes project writing about how the campaign started and spread across the UK and beyond, the meanings behind rituals of remembrance, looking at their prominence on London streets (and photographing them), exploring whether the bikes act as real reminders of the dangers for cyclists to motorists, and whether the bikes have a chilling effect on cycling.

There are various other Flickr groups around with pictures of ghost bikes documenting their brief or continued existence on global streets - such as the NYC ghost bikes group and the ghost bike group - however by submitting your pictures to this group you agree to the terms outlined below as we'll feature some of our favourite portfolios and pictures from the group on guardian.co.uk and maybe in other formats, e.g. our newspapers.

By posting your pictures here you a) acknowledge that you have created the pictures or have permission to do so; and b) grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, free licence to publish your pictures as described. Copyright resides with you and you may reuse your pictures however you wish. You will be credited and paid if we make other uses of your pictures.
