About GGT UK BIOFUELS

GGT UK BIOFUELS Flickr Group was started by GO GREEN TODAY (GGT) which is a Registered Charity in the UK - we WELCOME your input and contributions to our website - please visit - we always need volunteers and help. Thank you.

www.GoGreenToday.org.uk - Helping You To Love Living A Greener Life

GGT UK BIOFUELS FLICKR GROUP specifically wants your pictures of the following crops; especially if you've photographed them growing in the UK - yellow oilseed rape, flax ('Solin'), chokecherry, sunflowers, olives, and other oil crops you know to be used as biofuels (or potential future biofuel crops). This group is also for photos of anything to do with the cultivation and processing of biofuels, especially in the UK; including biodiesel derived from recycled sources such as used vegetable oils. We're also interested in bioethanol crops and production - this isn't currently done in the UK due to EU restrictions, but we welcome relevant pics from outside the UK for reference.

Please feel free to submit ANY photos you feel are relevant to complete our picture about UK biofuels and potential UK biofuel crops (if any aren't suitable we'll just remove them). PLEASE DON'T SUBMIT pictures about biofuel issues OUTSIDE the UK - there are already some magnificent Flickr groups concerned with these issues and you should submit to those groups instead please (see our list of favourite groups on our Flickr profile page). Thank you.

Biofuels are seemingly THE answer to finding alternatives for diesel and power generation - they seem to be PERFECT. However there's much more to the story about biofuels than the media usually tells us and we all need to think VERY carefully right now about the present and future implications of growing special crops in the UK to process them for use as fuel.

GO GREEN TODAY is investigating biofuels and their potential benefits and negative impacts for humans and for our natural environment and climate. GO GREEN TODAY is based in the UK and our focus is the UK although we're still concerned about what's happening in other countries (i.e. China) if what they're doing, or not doing, is having a significant effect upon the UK or upon the entire world.

With regards to UK biofuels our primary concern at present is the massive and increasing spread in the cultivation of YELLOW OILSEED RAPE and we're currently doing some very serious research into its connection with the increasing rise in UK asthma and breathing problems, which farmers, DEFRA, and the British Government deny as an allergen. We're also very keen to help raise public awareness about the cultivation of FLAX, which was a widespread and common crop in the UK until the early 1900s - Flax is an incredible and highly valuable plant - EVERY PART of it can be used - flaxseed oil is extremely high in Omega 3 and is a perfect alternative to taking fish oils - flax can also be used as a biofuel and the plant itself is the source of LINEN, which used to be a thriving industry in the UK. Finally, flax is a very beautiful lilac blue flowering crop with absolutely no allergic properties (very UNLIKE Yellow Oilseed Rape!) - our UK countryside would be beautiful once more covered with fields of delicate blue flowers that are kind on the eyes if the visually violent yellow monstrosity of Oilseed Rape was replaced by it!

GO GREEN TODAY is also extremely concerned about the mass cultivation of biofuels such as Palm Oil that are totally destroying the natural ecosystems of other countries where deforestation threatens our entire planet by removing the most valuable CO2 'scrubbers' that exist - we can't afford to lose any more trees. We contend that nothing threatens our global climate more than deforestation and change of land use, so we absolutely oppose what's happening in countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia - we are currently in the process of contacting many pertinent individuals and businesses in the UK about this issue. Please look at the Flickr Groups concerned about Palm Oil issues.

GO GREEN TODAY would like to compile a gallery of photos in this GGT UK BIOFUELS Flickr Group that illustrate OILSEED RAPE, FLAX (especially 'Solin'), and CHOKECHERRY (which is a possible temperate alternative to Palm Oil), together with photos illustrating cultivation and processing, and also the processing of recycled vegetable oil into biodiesel. Plus any other current or potential biofuel crops that are/could/might be grown in the UK.

If you can help then PLEASE JOIN THIS GROUP! Thank you!
