About GGT UK HYDROPOWER
GGT UK HYDROPOWER Flickr Group was started by GO GREEN TODAY (GGT) which is a Registered Charity in the UK - we WELCOME your input and contributions to our website - please visit - we always need volunteers and help. Thank you.
www.GoGreenToday.org.uk - Helping You To Love Living A Greener Life
GO GREEN TODAY totally supports the use of sustainable natural methods of generating power; especially systems that serve individual households or small communities that are able to fulfil their own energy needs and can live 'off the grid'. But we don't of course support any power system that destroys ecosystems to be created (i.e. giant dam projects).
There are already several alternative power groups on Flickr; especially those supporting wind turbines - and so GGT wishes to focus attention in this GGT UK HYDROPOWER Flickr Group on WATERWHEELS, WATER TURBINES, WAVE POWER, and any other methods of using water as a source of power - especially if these methods are small domestic systems, or used by communities or to run working machinery. We're not so interested in illustrating commercial water turbine power stations that serve the national grid; however these can be fascinating and of interest to a lot of people, plus in many cases they provide entirely Green energy - though of course those systems that use dams which have destroyed ecosystems to be created can't be regarded as benign sources of power.
In GGT UK HYDROPOWER Flickr Group we'd especially like to feature small systems that are possibly self-built and are successfully used to power homes - a photo story with explanations of how the system was created would be excellent! We want to feature ALL working waterwheels, etc, no matter where they are - they don't need to be in the UK - we want to illustrate them for inspiration and ideas. Please don't submit photos of ornamental non-working or historic waterwheels that aren't of any practical use unless you really feel that someone could benefit from studying the design of the system.
GO GREEN TODAY is currently investigating small hydropower systems and if you can help with information then please visit our website - we're especially keen to read about the progress of Ian Gilmartin's invention based on the Archimedes Screw, so if you can help with that OR have photos of it then please JOIN THIS FLICKR GROUP! Thank you!
