Need help removing geolocation keyword tag
|
Hi, I'm using geosetter to tag all my photos before importing them into lightroom, which works great, but I have one problem. Each photo gets a keyword tag like
"geo:lat=36.11108150, geo:lon=-115.17366130"
Then these are added into my keyword tags in lightroom and it is making it really hard to make a keyword hierarchy. Is there a setting I can use to turn this added tag on/off, I assume in geosetter? Or can I tell lightroom to ignore it when importing?
TIA
Matt

In Geosetter -
File | Settings | Data Preferences.
Unchecking "Flickr Geotags" will stop the IPTC keywords being added.
As far as I'm aware these tags serve no purpose if the geo data has already been stored as Exif data as Flickr will use this.

Thanks sjr60, that is great to know, never had to tweak that setting yet.
When working with orthorectified satellite and aerial imagery such as GEOTIFFS, not only is the location informaiton embedded in the header but each pixel is referenced to a location based on a mathematical model of the earth.
Some times this information is stored in a sidecar file called a "world file"
Some software prioritizes using the header and some the world file, causing a headache if the models of the earth that are referenced are different for the header and world file. It is a real PITA because it gives instructions to draw the image in the correct location (or incorrect depending on what you are doing or software that you are using).
The reason I bring this up is that the geo tagging could pose a similar poblem.
The location keywords stored in flickr (and the related IPTC keyword) will only work correctly if the coordinates are latitude and longitude recorded in decimal degrees using the WGS84 datum.
However you can also embed UTM coordinates in the header of the EXIF instead of Lat Lon (this is a common practice, but not often discussed on flickr) or store the coordinates in Lat Lon using the degrees minutes seconds format instead. This means your flickr key word/IPTC coordinates and EXIF coordinates are not in sync. It also opens the door of opportunity to have one be the correct set of coordinates or coordinates of better precision than the other if they are changed or updated at different times.
Not likely to happen, but as I've experienced with the header and world file problem, it is a rare and frustrating experience when you encounter an image where the location infomation is out of sync and is also missing the information to help sort out the mess to choose the correct one.
It could pose a real problem for folks migrating geo-tagged images that have location information that is inconsistent in their own header between software that default or prioritize one type of geo-stamping over another.
