My workflow:
- geocode to exif with GPicSync (using trip GPX)
- hardcode tags into EXIF with picassa or Vista (into XMP)
- upload to flickr
- upload gox to motionbased.com to get route placed on map
- present the flickr slideshow next to motionbased embedded map
- sit back and wait for something better to come along.
I wish there was a service where I could store my GPX/KML files online and present them on a google-based topo map that had thumbnails on the actual TRACK plotted on map and the thumbnails would open in Flickr photo page.
I've not found where I can do this reliably (triptracker.net comes close but lacks topo maps).
Anyone else?

The map application( maps.yuan.cc/ ) I wrote can store GPX files online. It can also display google-based topo map with flickr thumbnails plotted on the track. You can see an example below.
maps.yuan.cc/gps/159/

@ .CK
Your app is nice, and I've know about it for awhile. I think you're becoming a victim of your own success in that for me the site is awefully slow whenever I visit.
Ideally, I would be able to upload my files to Google and use a map widget/plugin to do this.
.CK what are your longer term plans for your nice script?

About several images at the same spot problem, maybe you can try the Flickr GMap Show(discussion) script, but this script can't load the GPS tracking data now, it can only show the time tracking by the taken time recorded on flickr. Maybe i can find a way to integrate the GPX data.

My workflow:
- geocode to exif with JetPhoto Studio Pro(using trip GPX)
- upload to flickr
- present the photos either using flickr, or my own map mashup on www.bluespot.dk/map but the picture navigation here needs more thought.

I found WikiLoc www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/spatialArtifacts.do?event=viewSpa...
and MTBGuru www.mtbguru.com/trip/show/2476-stor-d-rren which both allow me to upload both tracks and images and then present the results on my own webpage using iframe.
Though none of them are fully integrated with flickr yet. Nor couldnt I get them to display my geotagged iimages.

I suggest you give triptracker.net a try. You can see an example of a trip here: triptracker.net/trip/1855/map/
Flickr integration was also available until a recent API change. We'll try to restore the functionality one we push the new version out very soon.
With the new version you will also be able to present your trips on your page like www.amazonswim.com/
If you have any feature requests or suggestions just send an email to: support@triptracker.net

I've tried triptracker but it seems the development is dead (no offense). I also think that the satellite view of maps is worthless for this application (no offense). I need to be able to switch to topo view to be truly happy with it. According to your forums the topo view is "not possible" which I just don't understand.

You may want to try FODYSSEUS www.fodysseus.com to time-synch your GPX files with your photos and to get the coordinats into the EXIF header. The user interface is very intuitive: just drag the photos into the application window, then drag the track file(s) into it - done.
The software then writes KML files to view the photos in Google maps.

Gregor; I gave triptracekr a try yesterday but I couldnt get it to display my photos along the track, it only presented them together with the track. And furthermore I hade to upload to Triptracker. I want something that uses my flickr images so people still can leave comments etc.

hi there is something quite new. Its www.locr.com
Its very easy to handle and works with google earth. The development is working hard for new features. Just check it out ;-).
There are no upload limits and so on. And there won`t come any.
There is also an feature to integrate the picturese in your blog.

I write a technical demonstration to show the flickr photoset with gpx data, just like add gpx support to Flickr GMap Show style.
Go to this page and fill the photoset_id (in flickr) and gpx data content.
After submit this form, it will encode the gpx data in the url and redirect to a demostraction page to show photoset and gpx path. This program is pure javascript, so it can easily embed in normal webpage with iframe, like this page.
But because the url length is limited, so this method can't process large gpx data. I still find another way to solve the problem.

wctang:- I like this!
As you say you need to get a better method of getting the gpx data. My gpx data (each with several thousand points!) is online. It would be great to input my photoset id and the address of the relevant gpx file and have them displayed together.
What I like is the size of the photo and the ability to get to the Flickr photo page.
Keep up the good work.

I'd like to keep my GPX files in a nice library online.... preferably in geoRSS. Then link to them via this script (wctang).... would be great. Anyone have a good library system for GPX files online?
wctang: any way to add in topo layer?

wctang: Wow really nice, almost exactly what I was looking for!! Thanks a lot. Dont have that much time today to try it out. Just made a quick test from the hike I'm making a presentation for, flickr-gmap-show.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/flickr-gmap-pho... and it looks really nice. Maybe I'll have a bit more time tomorrow or next week and see what I can make out of it.

As karl's test sample, this tool can read a gpx file with a url (use Yahoo Pipes), so it can show such a huge gpx data :)
1. go to this page and fill the photoset_id and the gpx url (large and online) or gpx file content (if small).
2. after submit, it will redirect to here, and will show the result.
3. this can easily embedded in normal web page, like this example.

wctang: What you have done is great and so easy to use. You can see an example at www.churchard.com/Lioran/Sunday Your work is at the bottom of the page. Many of the links do not work as I have not completed the site. But you have made what I wanted!
I notice that the map always opens in Map mode. I would like it to open in Hybrid mode. Is this possible?

First, thank you to everyone who has contributed here. I've gotten more "done" on this thread than the last 2 years combined.
wctang: by topo I meant a topographic map layer on top of google map. See www.backcountrymaps.com/ for an example of the different types of maps that can be overlain on google maps.
wctang: thanks for some great work.

... and I was just thinking of moving my pics to picasa web since they now have mapping. wonder how hard it would be to port your script, wctang, to use google's picasa web photos?

For geotagged images, Panoramio also might be worth a look. It revolves around geotagging and though it doesn't have track support, i think it is more evolved than i.e. Flickr and Picasa Web when it comes to geotagged images (Panoramio was by the way purchased by Google a couple of months or so).
Personally i think that the possibility to "attach" a gpx-file to a set, here on Flickr and then it would be possible to present a track with images on Flickr.
My workflow - BTW - is something like this:
- download the GPX-files from the GPS receiver*
- merge all the GPX-files into one using GPS TrackMaker Free
- postprocess the images and convert to JPEG
- geotag .jpeg's using WWMX Location Stamper
I then keep my GPX-file along with the actual set of raw-files.
* The GPS receiver produces one GPX-file/day varying from 1 Kbyte to 1.5 Mbyte and are attached as a USB-memory-device, from which the GPX-files are readily downloadable.

wctang: I'm interested in using your script as a library to create my own interactive maps and in the current form it is not so easily done. Things I want todo is to create several sets of images to display and let the one viewing the webpage decide which one to visualize and possible have different colours on the icons etc. Also to combine it with other scripts like the GPX Viewer, notions.okuda.ca/geotagging/projects-im-working-on/gpx-vi... Is this something you would be interested in changing the script into, or would it be okey if I change it to become what I want?

karl: Of course, all code in flickr-gmap-show are under MIT license. You can take this script to do any thing interesting :) , or give me your patch, or join this project :)
Currently I am trying to support picasa album with this script, but it seems not as easily as I think :)

Now this can show web picasa album in the same way, like this sample, with specified user name album name or id.
And you can add additional parameter to all this tools (flickr or picasa) :
- "no_control=1" do not show any controller
- "maptype=normal, satellite, or hybrid" change the initial map type.
like this sample.

Hey guys, I'm planning to go back to China this year. If I have my GPS unit logging my path throughout the country, is it possible to get Google Earth to display the data as one big trail and along the way with pictures on each of the path? The only problem is that the GPS unit will split the tracks after 10,000 points or so. I'm not sure how you guys do it, but I would love to know.

My process has evolved into:
1. Copy raw files from the card to the hard disk
2. Rename and rate the images in Adobe Bridge.
3. Download the NMEA files from the GPS. (I have a PhotoTrackr which has its own software to export NMEA and also an AMOD AGL3080 which records in NMEA file format).
4. Synch the NMEA file from the GPS with geosetter (freeware / Windows). I chose this product since it writes to XMP instead of overwriting the original raw files, and it's easy to work around the difference between my (Eastern Standard) time and UTC that the GPS runs on.
5. Backup images and apply metadata using Exiftool scripts. These scripts also add keywords and lens tags.
6. Process the photos in photo editing software. Save JPEGs from the raw files.
7. Restore the backed up metadata to the JPEGs.
8. Upload to flickr!
I look forward to reading up on your presentation options -- didn't know there was a way to do that. I learn something new every day here. :-)

It looks like you are all windows folks. I am using a mac with my new job and had to switch around my workflow some.
1. Download all photos into Aperture - Will let you view images on a map. I think Adobe's Lightroom has similar capabilities.
2. Process and get rid of the junk
3. Download my tracks
4. Open GPSPhotoLinker
5. Open my GPX and then drag and drop pics from apeture onto GPS PhotoLinker
6. Upload to smugmug where they are placed on a map. Smugmug's mapping isn't great but they have other features that more than make up for it.
@Lawrence Junjie Lee - GSAK will let you combine a GPX file- so you could download the separate tracks and then stick them together in one big file.

Hi,
I'm using the Neat Bookmarklet to geotag my photo directly in flickr. But to present my geotagged images, I'm using my own script because I want to show how the picture was taken (ie from where, and the direction) as you can see in this Example. And I can also display all my pictures at once :

This is a great thread. I have been playing with GPSed www.gpsed.com/ for a few days now and it seems that it will very nicely do just about everything I want. Interface is a little clunky still but the integration with Flickr or Picasa is sweet. If I can just get them to work with Smugmug I will be super Psyched!
