About Around the Geffrye's rooms and gardens
The Geffrye is one of London's most friendly and enjoyable museums. It explores the home over the past 400 years, from around 1600 to the present day and aims to show how homes have been used and furnished over this period. We have a permanent display of 11 period rooms as well as an award-winning herb garden and series of period gardens. The museum runs a lively programme of special exhibitions and events for all ages and each year our period rooms are decorated in authentic festive style for our popular Christmas Past exhibition.
We hope you will enjoy visiting 'Around the Geffrye's rooms and gardens'. You are welcome to upload photos, leave comments and become a member of the group. We have seen some wonderful photos taken by visitors to the Geffrye and hope more will be shared here.
We will add additional groups in the future as a way to document all the different community, education and curatorial projects we are developing - and will welcome your input to these aswell. You might also want to check the Geffrye Museum photostream which has additional images of the museum, including some great archival photographs: www.flickr.com/photos/48086000@N07/
So please check back from time to time and see what is happening.
In 2012 we will once again be working with UCL MA students on a variety of projects, under the title 'Documenting Student Homes', as part of our Stories of the World programme. In 2011 the theme was 'The World At Home'.
