We’ve set up this Flickr group so we can see your community garden, whether you’re a past Crusader winner or one of the estimated 20,000 community gardeners in the U.S. We also want to make it easy for you to share your garden photos with backyard gardeners in your area so that visitors to our website can learn more about a community garden near them. Since 1983, we’ve been donating 8% of our profits to gardening and environmental initiatives and large part of our 8% donations goes toward our Garden Crusader program. This program was established to honor individuals who are improving the world through gardening. We also support organizations that help support community and school gardening like the American Community Gardening Association, the National Gardening Association and American Horticultural Society.
Here’s instructions for placing a ‘tag’ on your photo, a ‘Tag’ is essentially a label that you add to your photo to make it easier for someone to find. So, if you’d like your garden to be searchable, please ‘Tag’ your photo with your City and State. For example, we’ve tagged one our 2009 Garden Crusader winners, Vicki Nowicki, as Downer’s Grove, Illinois, IL. So, a visitor can search under Illinois or IL, the postal code for the state, and learn what gardens may be near where they live to learn more.
