About Marcello Gandini

Marcello Gandini (August 26, 1938, Turin), the son of an orchestra conductor, is an Italian car designer noted for designing numerous exotic as well as practical cars.

Gandini was chief designer of Stile Bertone, having succeeded Giorgetto Giugiaro. Gandini left Bertone in 1980, pursuing freelance automotive, industrial and interior design. He continues to work, as of 2009, at age 71.

Together with Giorgetto Giugiaro and Leonardo Fioravanti, Gandini forms a noted triumvirate of Italian car designers, all born in 1938, within months of each other.

Gandini designed Lamborghini's Miura and Countach and many practical cars as well, including the first-generation BMW 5-series. Gandini introduced the concept of scissor doors with the Alfa Romeo 33 Carabo prototype.
