As you can see from this groups pool, the Galileoscopes have started to arrive at peoples homes! Many thanks to the people who made the Galileoscope possible!

Group DescriptionA group of people who use or have used the Galileoscope in combination with a digital camera. The Galileoscope is a mass-produced refractor telescope. Taken from their website:
We set about to design a new telescope kit from scratch, one that would redefine the small educational telescope and include features usually seen only on commercial instruments costing 10 times more, such as achromatic lenses, aggressive stray-light control, and a 1¼-inch focuser. We believe we've succeeded! The Galileoscope enables kids of all ages to build and observe with a telescope similar to (but much better than) Galileo's. Sharing these observations with as many people as possible, and encouraging parents, teachers, students, and others to think about their importance, addresses one of the main goals of IYA2009: Promote widespread access to new knowledge and observing experiences.
Note, too, that we've developed the Galileoscope for astronomy education and outreach, not for profit. We've priced the kit to recover our costs, adding no extra margin. We created Galileoscope, LLC, so that we could sell telescopes directly to the global astronomical community; by "eliminating the middle man," we also eliminate the mark-up in price associated with an extra link in the distribution chain. Moreover, almost everyone involved in the project is a volunteer, working on the Galileoscope in addition to doing his or her "day job." Simply put, the Galileoscope is a labor of love, not a profit-making commercial venture.
