10 Jul 07 - It appears that there may be AB postcodes outwith Aberdeenshire. As of now, the postcode is no longer the defining location factor, Aberdeenshire Council's patch defines our boundary.
If in doubt don't post. You don't want your points taken away, do you?

About Guess Where Aberdeenshire

This group has been inspired by The Guess Where Aberdeen group but is a little more wideranging, it covers anywhere with in Aberdeenshire outwith Aberdeen City. Aberdeenshire Council's area, a poor map of which can be found here

To play, there are two options.

1] Guessing:
There are a number of threads in the group discussions which contain a photograph whose location you need to guess and/or identify. Just add your thoughts to the end of the discussion. It really is that simple.

Caveat: Although you can click on the photo and go straight to the image in the stream, if you guess in a picture's comments or by putting a note on saying "It's in Kemnay.", it won't count. It has to be in the discussion thread. This means you may guess on the comments, someone else may notice it and go "D'oh! Of course!" and run back to the group and post it in the thread and get your point. And you don't want that to happen, do you?

- Now to the other option:
2] Posting:

It is going to be a little bitty trickier to state this, but in absolute, easy-peasy, simple, no nonsense language, all you have to do is start a new thread from the group page with your photo, give it a suitably cryptic title and sit back and await bemusement and incorrect guesses.

Although you can send the photo you want us to guess to the pool, like any other group, you must start a new discussion thread and put your picture at the top. If you do not know how to post a picture in a thread, here's a quick how-to...
1) Go to the picture in your Flickr photostream.
2) Click the "all sizes" button above the photo (Magnifying glass with a plus).
3) Chose either the small or (preferably) medium size. Near the bottom of this page are two boxes of code you can copy. It is best to use the code from the larger box, but the smaller one will do if you know what you are doing. Just copy the code in the normal way for your computer (That's highlight then Apple and C if you have a Mac and highlight then Control+C if you are using microsoft stuff).
4) Come back to the group and start your discussion. Add a title, preferably something to do with the picture. And at the top of the "Your Post" box, paste the code you have just copied (Mac: Apple+V, Windows: Control+V). Leave a message underneath should you so desire

Now, The RULES.
Guessers:
1) You can only have one live guess per discussion thread at any time. That means you need to wait until the poster of the pictures says your guess is wrong before you can guess again.
2) You CAN be vague with guesses but the poster CAN ask for clarification

Posters
1) Your image should show at least 3metres of space, ie no obscure fence post close ups. That means that you should be able to place a 3m stick into the picture in at least one direction. It doesn't matter if it is upward, side ways, front to back or diagonally. For those of you who don't have big sticks to hand 3 metres is roughly equal to
One and half tall men OR
The ceiling height in an old house OR
The ceiling height plus an arm in a new house OR
Ten feet.
2) The posting must be left live for at least SEVEN days, unless it is guessed.
3) It should be checked at least once every 24hours. So don't put a picture up, sod off to a Spanish villa with no internet access for a week, then come back to each person's one live guess and expect to reveal and collect a point. Should you find yourself without internet access for a few days then the posting's time limit should be extended as appropriate.

The following are not Rules, merely advice for those wishing to post pictures.

1) Post it on its own in your photo stream. It's a dead give-away if the picture on either side is the building nextdoor.
2) Don't put a note or tag on the picture to say "Victoria Terrace, Kemnay by Me, 20 August 2006".
3) Image title. Would we really have trouble guessing a photo called "Inverurie Town Hall Close-Up"? Well, some of us maybe...
4) Flickr map. Do not map it, unless it has been guessed / revealed.

If you do well, you too could appear on the
Scores
.
