Winner: Mister Soulsonic! Congratulations! Photo manipulation challenge Jan 17 - Jan 31

view profile

Snapmaker Margareta  Pro User  says:

This challenge now runs for two weeks, between 1st to 15th and then 16th to 30th/31st of every month.

Voting day for this challenge will be on 31st Jan 2011

Below is an image that everyone can work however they like until the midnight (your time) of 30th January

People can vote for their favourite (or favorite for Americans) version on 31st January. The winner can submit an image of their own (SOOC- straight out of camera, with no processing done yet) in a new thread on the same day.

There will be no limitations and any sort of processing and manipulation is fair game. Hopefully at least some part of the original is recognizable, but this challenge is all about fun and learning new techniques and skills.

Don't forget to download the original sizes so you have the most to work with.

Entry is open to all members - and you don't need to have entered - to vote.

=====================================================

Questions about software or techniques? Just ask some of the regulars and they'll be more than happy to help.

I wonder why I haven't used this beautiful shot for anything, lol! Anyway, lots of space to fill, guys and gals!

Yes Margareta - we can access this pic - but you have placed a lock on Downloads

see the statement at the top of page - "The owner has disabled downloading of their photos"

you will need to release this pic for download - not sure how - since I allow all my pics to be available to all others - but someone will be able to help you.

You should enter it in the next reflections contest you see

But ---- "Nil Desperandum" - as the Blue Guy in Canada would say.

Congratulations on winning the challenge Margareta. I thought your entry was great.

This new one's got me stumped though...too many ideas! Sometimes I look at a new challenge photo and see something straight away and go with it. This is not one of those occasions. But that is one of the main reasons why I enjoy these challenges :)

I'm really torn between JTH's and soulonic's. JTH jammed a lot of things in there which is really impressive (and I'm sure took oodles of time and effort). But mister_soulsonic's just looks so smoothly put together - the assembled bear, the wintery background, etc.

So I guess I'm going with #5 - but it's REALLY close!

PS: Margaretta, you may want to add "NOW VOTING" to the title of this post just to help let people know it's voting day.

#5 for me, because with the ice floes disappearing polar bears will need friends! Seriously, there is real feeling in the result, and beautiful execution.

(I have to mention #1 as well though, it was a tough choice because there is an abstract effect that is fascinating about it.)

I think my favorite this week is jayteeaitch's #4. I have different favorites for different reasons, but I remember when jayteeaitch was first starting the manipulation challenges. He was very apologetic......hadn't really done much like it before....didn't have the right tools....etc, etc...... Now, look what he's doing. Layers upon layers of brave inspired lunacy. The techniques used in these challenges at first seem overwhelmingly complicated, but the once you've figured out the tools....even an old man can do it (I'm just having fun here JTH....you're only as old as you feel). But seriously.....I apologize for not making this round. I had a family emergency come up and just got back to town, but I'd LOVE to see more people get their feet wet.

@ NoodleDudle....is that your original art....or did you just manipulate it.....it's also very clever?

Nearly missed the vote - sorry if I have Margaretta.

I would have voted for - #5 - - because that polar bear took some work - that is obvious. Well done Soulman.

The whole thing reminded me of an advert in the UK where I grew up - an advert for sweets Called "Polar Bear Mints" - suggesting ice cold fresh taste. If it had a title - it would be a perfect manipulation.

As was Noodle's doodle - with the fags. Would make a good Poster.

It's clear that these challenges are pushing everyone who enters them to try new techniques and fine tune old ones. Great to watch how everyone's progressing.

Thanks, as always, to all who entered and voted.

I'll upload the next challenge photo as soon as possible.
