Photo Manipulation Challenge (2 weeks) starting 16/11/10
view profile
Pommedan Pro User says:

**IMPORTANT ANNOUNCMENT**

This challenge has been changed from WEEKLY to FORTNIGHTLY

Voting day for this challenge will be 30th November

From the 1st November challenges will run between 1st to 15th and then 16th to 30th/31st of every month

That's right, following jayteeaitch's excellent suggestion, we all now have 2 WHOLE WEEKS to crank out our photo manipulation entries! The mind boggles at what we will be able to achieve given TWICE the amount of time (sorry to shout about it, but I am pretty excited).

Please, do join in if you are in any way inclined / able. It's a lot of fun, and once you've done one, there'll be no looking back :)

Questions about software or techniques? Just ask some of the regulars and they'll be more than happy to help.

***********************************************

Below will be THREE images that everyone can work however they like until the end of 30th November.
Combine or use just one its up to you.

People can vote for their favourite (or favorite for Americans) version on 1st December. The winner can submit an image of their own (SOOC- straight out of camera, with no processing done yet) in a new thread on the same day.

There will be no limitations and any sort of processing and manipulation is fair game. Hopefully at least some part of the original is recognizable, but this challenge is all about fun and learning new techniques and skills.

Don't forget to download the original sizes so you have the most to work with.

Entry is open to all members - and you don't need to have entered - to vote.

Nope...I've given these 3 photos a good few hours to soak in, and I'm still drawing a blank. Especially trying to use elements from all of them...

This will be a challenge :-D

I had a glimmer of something and then it vanished from my head.....hopefully it'll come back.
Garry9600 Posted 15 years ago
I'm sorry guys - I'm sure my picture is the one that's throwing you off - but that's what makes this a challenge, right? I knew it wasn't going to be an easy one to use - but I'm thinking maybe some kind of texture layer? Anyway you don't have to use all three pictures if you don't want to (remember we don't really have many rules for this challenge). Although I'm determined to use all three .... Somehow???
AlnVrz | Illusions Posted 15 years ago
Sweet..!.. Maybe this is why I did'nt vote;-)(sorry for that).. 3 images to play with. I had a fun time playing with the last one, but that was just one!.. lets take these 3 for a party!...
V1mage Posted 15 years ago
I don't have an image idea yet, but I get the moral to the three photos - For man who rides unicycle lakeside, water looms large.
Dan @ DG Images Posted 15 years ago
lol... try cutting out that unicycling jester.... no blue.... but some long time lasso work!!

Wow you guys are good!!! I'm not sure what I'm feeling more as I look at the entries so far: Inspired? or Intimidated? I guess, to be honest, a little of both!

At first i was like "WTF???" but then i realized you are 3 bad guys that posted insane pics. So i had to deal with.
Blueman entry is *epic* to me, but i have just found this lp in a drawer..."Irregular Photoshop Experiments" from Frankie

zappa is not dead

So there's a bit of cycle man and a bit of the Garry insane pic. Been fighting for some like 1 hour but nope, no way to fill with xAV lake.... :°°|

#9 Fire on an Autumn Lake.
I worked this in the last four days, putting most of the effects together on a programme called Wax Effects.
There's a few obvious misses ( too tired to mask the pylon over the passing boat etc.) but I had fun with what was within reach. There's a simple story, involving crashing into the jetty, accidentally firing an emergency flare onto the boat opposite (that red line thingy), and the obvious result.
Flickr doesn't want us to embed our video in the forums?

Hey it is voting day! Very difficult to choice
because all manipulation photos are
original, creative, inspiring,...

Here my vote for the entry:

# 4
colorful airport [deleted] Posted 15 years ago
My vote may be going against the grain. #9 because it makes me laugh every time I view it. There are others that are technically better, but this one just makes me smile.
D4E Posted 15 years ago
#11

impressive work and great idea
mister_soulsonic [back soon] Posted 15 years ago
My vote goes to the surrealist museum #5 this week, though it was tough choosing as usual :)
Garry9600 Posted 15 years ago
Once again you folks all amaze me with your creativity and talent. They're all great, but I'm torn between two that I think are absolutely stellar: Blueman's "Musuem" and mister_soulsonic's Tarot Card. Hmmmm....

I think I have to give to #11 (mister_soulsonic) this time - it's just so clever and exceptionally well done! (sorry Blueman).

(I also have to give a huge honorable mention to xAV^433's entry which was terrific as well!)
Dan @ DG Images Posted 15 years ago
#6 - Frank Zappa, WORD!!! :-)
xAV^433 Posted 15 years ago
#1-- I see that everytime I go there.
Wonderful work all--
V1mage Posted 15 years ago
#11 Mr soulsonic has talked the talk, and walked the walk.
(And Lukinosity, your cheque's in the mail).
~Kyla~ Posted 15 years ago
My vote goes to #11 too - Just amazing :)

I also really liked #3 as I thought it was clever of Yogran to use the fabric rainbow for the sail).
YogRan Posted 15 years ago
I am voting for #9 for thinking differently and making me laugh.. :)

@ --> Thanks for the special mention..

Congratulations Mr.Soulsonic, great idea and processing, very cool.
mister_soulsonic [back soon] Posted 15 years ago
Thank you all kindly for the votes. And sorry, blueman, to have beaten you by such a narrow margin.

Well done again to everyone who entered. I was so impressed with how you all used elements from all three photographs- it was a very tricky challenge and I think we all rose to it admirably.

I'll get the next challenge photo up as soon as possible.

Cheers :-D
pierre alarie Posted 15 years ago Edited by pierre alarie (member) 15 years ago
Congratulations mister_soulsonic!

I have an idea soulsonic and other members.

We have almost equal you and me.

WHYNOT to repeat this next challenge with 2 photos to manipulate

(like the last challenge with 3 photos)

1 photo from you soulsonic

and

1 photo from.me Blueman

What do you think of that???

Now i will go on my work in Montreal.

Please answer my question today if you accept my deal!

Blueman.

(sorry again for my poor english)
mister_soulsonic [back soon] Posted 15 years ago
Hey blueman- I'm easy. If others are ok with that then I am too. I wasn't inspired by any of my recent photos so an extra one from yourself would be welcome (at least by me!).

Whether or not we continue to use more than one photo each challenge I guess is up for discussion. It certainly makes it more challenging but I'm not sure if we should make it a regular thing. I think we should say that in the event of a tie, all winners should enter a pic, as we did with this last challenge. That means that it won't happen often, but when it does it will be a treat :)
Garry9600 Posted 15 years ago Edited by Garry9600 (member) 15 years ago
Congratulations mister_soulsonic! And Blueman too. I think it's up to the two of you this time to decide about both of you submitting photos or not. But it's been pretty clear that we only do that when there's an actual tie. I guess I like things kept consistent and simple to avoid confusion in the future - so I think only mister-soulsonic should put up the photo for the next challenge. But that's just my humble opinion. :-)

And Greg, I don't think it matters whether or not it's a recent photo. Fantastic entires EVERYONE!!
Dan @ DG Images Posted 15 years ago
Congrats Soulsonic!.. I think i agree with Garry - just one photo for the winner unless its an actual tie. Otherwise we might end up with 6 or 7 photos because 'everyone nearly came first' - just my 2 cents worth :-)
YogRan Posted 15 years ago
Its not a tie this time so going by the rules, only the winner gets chance to submit the new challenge.. Thx..

Congratulations mister_soulsonic..
pierre alarie Posted 15 years ago Edited by pierre alarie (member) 15 years ago
Ok ! Congrat to you Soulsonic!

I understand the position of other members.

That's ok for me. I will no post a photography.

We wait for your picture Soulsonic!

But perhaps, another new challenge who allow

2 or 3 photographies to be transformed. I dont know!

I find the idea exciting. What do you thing?
mister_soulsonic [back soon] Posted 15 years ago
Cool. In the interests of avoiding confusion in the future it makes sense to stick to the rules. I've got no problem with that :)

I'll post up the pic for the next challenge very shortly.

Thanks very much for the votes and congratulations, folks.
