About Futurism
The futurist movement of the early 20th century set out to explore/capture the 4th dimention - time - on a 2d flat surface. (Perspective and depth tried to re-create the 3rd dimention)
Futurism wanted to revolutionise painting and help, along with other early 20th century movements, to break the traditionalal values of art and lead the way to experimentation exploration of art.
They were also looking forward and trying to embrace the new technological era beginning at the start of the century and so often their landscapes were filled with huge futuristic urban utopias spanning vast distances and with futurist objects such as flying cars.
As a Futurist manifesto put it: `universal dynamism must be rendered as dynamic sensation ... motion and light destroy the substance of objects.'
Examples of Futurist work are:
Boccioni's Futurist Sculpture
