This unique project, fusionwear sv , sponsored by the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles and the 2010 01Biennial asks the question: What does the Silicon Valley experience look like to you?

Beginning on May 3rd, the community is invited to submit images that represent the Silicon Valley experience in all its cultural, geographic and technological diversity. The images submitted will provide inspiration to artist Corinne Okada Takara who will bring our diverse, dynamic region to life in a series of fusionwear sv Silicon Valley printed fabrics.

The fusionwear sv project is designed to create a visual vocabulary for a region that struggles to articulate its identity beyond its role as high tech mecca. The fusionware sv fabrics will represent the Silicon Valley experience in the same way the Hawaiian print captures the spirit and cultural iconography of Hawaii.

There are two components to the project: Inspiration and Design .

Inspiration
Beginning on May 1, everyone is invited to upload their own images to create an image pool that represents a visual vocabulary for the Silicon Valley experience. All submitted images will be viewable through a Flickr silde show accessible from the fusionwear sv website at fusionwearsv.sjquiltmuseum.org/

Everyone who makes a submission to the image pool will be entered into a raffle to win a pair of shoes made of a fusionwear sv fabric from www.zazzle.com. Also, individuals whose images are used as inspiration in Takara's textiles will be given full credit in exhibit signage for resulting textiles, as well as in BLURB book and ISSUU magazine.

Design
As soon as images are available in the image pool, you are invited to be inspired by these images to create your own fusionwear sv fabric designs. Upload your designs to our design pool (be sure to tag correctly with fusionwearsv_desgin ) . Winning designs will be selected through online voting on the fusionwear sv site in the Participate section (voting is from June 4th to June 11th and the five winners will be announce on site on June 12th). Winning designs will be produced and used in an art installation to be on view at the Museum of Quilts &Textiles during the 2010 01 SJ Biennial beginning September 16.

Basic image submission guidelines:

• Upload:
Upload your jpeg (.jpg) image to your Flickr account. If you don't have a Flickr account, simply create one at www.flickr.com. Upload .jpg images at highest-resolution image as possible. Submitted images may be used in various contexts and a hi-res image ensures the best quality if elements of it are used in a textile. (1200 x 1200 ppi at 200 dpi recommended)

(If you forget to tag your photo or images with above tags, they will not be entered in the raffle or the design contest.)

• Location tag images:

• Add Title and description to your image:
Where was image taken? How do you think this represents Silicon Valley? How do you feel about Silicon Valley as a place live, work and create? Your full name.

• Join this Flickr Group: Once you have uploaded your images and tagged them, you can join this Flickr group by coming back to this page and clicking on the "join?" at the top of page above images (in the same line as the Group Pool heading in pink).

Now you will see "Add something?" instead of "join?" at the top. Click on that "Add something?" and you will see all your images from your image pool in a box on the left. Drag what you wish to submit to the empty box set on the right titled "your selections"
then click on the "add to group" button below.
That's it!

(Note: It may take 10 minutes for your images to appear in the website slideshow and in the Flickr group map.)

• Be sure to read the contest rules below.

What are the rules that I need to follow?
a. There is a limit of five images from each person in the textile design contest. There is no limit to images submitted for inspiration image pool. One raffle entry per image for image pool submissions.
b. Photos or other imagery that you submit must be your own work and you must own the rights to distribute the image.
c. Photos must be offered under a Creative Commons Attribution License. See www.flickr.com/creativecommons/ for more information on Creative Commons licenses.
e. You must have the consent of those whose faces are visible in the image. If your photo is selected you will be required to provide a release form for each individual in your photograph.
f. By adding your photo to the Museum's Flickr Group Pool and tagging it “fusionwearsv” or "fusionwearsv_design" you authorize The San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles to use all entered photographs for any Museum use, (including but not limited to educational, archival, advertising, marketing, promotional purposes, and in publications of the Museum including books, posters, film, internet use, and merchandise), in any media in perpetuity. Your name will be credited in any usage of the photograph. If your image is used as reference inspiration for the textile design, your name will be credited in print descriptions of the textile.
g. By participating in the contest you agree to the terms of these rules.

Raffle for Inspiration Images
• The raffle winner will be chosen by The San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles at 9:00pm at the SubZero Festival on June 4th at the Museum and will be announced on the Museum's Flickr Group page and on the Museum's website through June 30th, 2010. All decisions are final.
• If you win the raffle you will be contacted by June 10th, 2010 by The San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles through your Flickr.com email account or by phone through your raffle stub if you enter at museum in person. You will be required to respond by email to the Museum within seven days or an alternate winner will be selected.
• Winner will receive a pair of Zazzle shoes (Converse or Keds) in size of winner's choosing. Winner will select a shoe design from an array of artist Takara's designs.

Prizes for Textile Design Contest
Public voting will begin on June 4th and end on June 7th at the fusionwear sv website in the Participate section . The five winners will be announced on June 8th. Winners receive:
• Exhibition of textiles based on the winning design at the Museum during the 2010 01SJ Biennial beginning September 16, 2010.
•Three yards of fabric printed with the winning design (you will receive after exhibit)
•Free membership to the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles for one year
