13 Jun 09 - Welcome to the FRVR - Fox River Valley Railroad photo pool. Please feel free to post your FRVR photos to this group. I ask that you keep the photos limited to FRVR operations. (This would include CNW pool units on FRVR). I would like to keep this to pre-WC photos.

About FRVR - Fox River Valley Railroad

The Fox River Valley Railroad operated from 1988 until 1993 on 214 miles of former CNW trackage. The railroad was owned by Itel, which also owned the Green Bay and Western. The line extended from Milwaukee north to Green Bay.

Motive power was mostly supplied by the CNW during the sale in the form of GP30s, GP35s, GP7s and GP9s. The FRVR also had an SD35 and the last operating SD24s in regular service. Only four locomotives were painted in their attractive red and yellow scheme. There were: SD24s; 2401 & 2402 and GP7s; 1701 & 1702.

In 1993 the railroad, along with the GBW, was sold to the Wisconsin Central and operated as its Fox Valley & Western subsidiary. A couple locomotives were painted into WC's maroon and gold, but most stayed in their originial colors with only WC reporting marks added.
