About Frontline Health Workers

Honoring USAID Support of Health Worker Heroes

Thanks to support from USAID, over the past 50 years, hundreds of organizations have trained and supported tens of thousands of health workers around the world. To celebrate USAID’s 50th anniversary this year, the community of recipients of USAID grants would like to show our appreciation of the contributions that USAID has made through a special birthday present.

We are creating a collection of photos of health workers from around the world who have been trained with USAID resources, one of the more enduring legacies of improving human well being to which USAID has contributed. These health workers have helped millions of men, women and children live healthier lives. They are true heroes, and we can all take pride in the impact they have made. The photo collection, we hope, will represent the wide variety of different cadres of health workers across different disciplines in various countries across the 50-year lifespan of USAID.

The collection of photos will be assembled into a slideshow that will be presented to USAID during the 50th anniversary events planned for November-December 2011. All organizations participating in the project will be credited for their contributions.

How to participate

Look back in your photo archives, and identify your photos of health workers, especially health workers in action with clients or community members. To add your health worker(s) to the collection, please upload a captioned photo, including:

1) Name and age of health worker (e.g. Maimouna Traore, 49 years old)

2) Role/job, community/town and country (e.g. Nurse midwife, Dioro Health Center, Mali)

3) Support received, name of USAID-funded agency, and date (e.g. Maimouna, trained in emergency obstetrics by Save the Children in 2008, along with Ami and her new daughter delivered by Maimouna; or Family planning promoter since 1982, trained by IntraHealth, along with some of her clients)

4) Note any possible sensitivity (for security or other reasons) for providing the full name, location or other information in case USAID would like to use the photos on their website or for any other reason.
