About US Forts (1670 - 1870)
We're expanding! Instead of limiting ourselves to just the coastal forts, I'm including the internal forts, such as Ticonderoga, the Alamo, and others.
There are many forts that were built along the eastern coastline from the late 1700's until the end of the War Between the States. After that time, rifled cannons made masonry forts obsolete.
There are earlier forts, specifically in the NorthEast, that figured heavily in the French and Indian Wars which also date from this time. Places like Boonesboro, KY and the remains of forts in places like Jamestown and Williamsburg, VA and Fort Raleigh in Manteo, NC. Since it's the history of the oldest forts we're trying to document here, those are welcome as well.
This group is to memorialize those forts that protected our nation through the first two centuries, and the people who lived and died there.
Please tag your photos with the fort name in one tag and the state 2-letter code in another. If the shots are of a reproduction, please tag that as well. Bonus points for geo-tagging or linking the web page of the fort (if it has one) to a caption.
