About Formula 3 - 500cc race cars
500cc racers, also known as Formula 3 race cars were popular from shortly after WWII to the mid to late 1950's.
Envisioned as an inexpensive way to get into racing, the original 500cc races were so popular that an International Formula 3 was developed.
The class declined in the late 50's when Formula 2 and Formula Juniors became popular.
Cars common to the class include: Cooper, Kieft, Effyh, and many more (many of the cars were one-off, specials -- built by individuals).
A great resource for these cars is: www.500race.org/
