Welcome to Forgotten Cemeteries and Graveyards. This group was created for anyone who enjoys overgrown, abandoned, or forgotten cemeteries, headstones, and mausoleums. There are very few rules here other than enjoy the photos!

Thank you for asking me to submit Abney Park shots. I like the idea of your group and I see it refers to overgrown, unmaintained *or* forgotten cemeteries. But I didn't feel I could submit shots with the group title being 'forgotten', it wouldn't be fair to Abney Park, which certainly isn't. (It's kind of hard to know whether a cemetery really has been totally forgotten. Neglected, yes.)

Anyway, sorry to be picky, I'm sure I will have something for you, will look later. It's a pity I have no shots of Tower Hamlets Cemetery from a while ago. Of the big London cemeteries, that was the one that was definitely overgrown and unmaintained - and very largely forgotten except by some locals. It's been spruced up a lot now, though...

I like the idea of this group, this is actually how I best relax. Walking through cemeteries with my camera.

I will prowl my photos and find some photos that fit in the category. Like Fin Fahey, I agree that one can find unmaintained spots in otherwise well maintained cemeteries, often in the "old section", but I like the name however.

I find walking through cemeteries very relaxing too! It gets you away from the everyday hustle and they are so interesting.

Fin Fahey--I completely understand....it wouldn't be fair to Abney Park if it isn't "forgotten". They are spectacular photos though.....

I just enjoy the silent beauty of the cemetery. I have often gone there just to think and get away from everything. Some of the stonework is so ornate and definitely very interesting.

Glad I came across this group.

I enjoy wandering through old abandoned cemeteries as well! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm looking forward to checking out everyone's photos!
