Part of the thrill of travelling is experiencing and seeing places, people, situations and events which are so removed from our day to day lives – which give us a glimpse into a different culture and a completely different way of life. The thrill of reliving these moments is a passion of most travellers and the arrival of the digital camera has not only saved most of us a fortune in developing costs, but also enabled the ability to share experiences in almost real time with friends and family all around the world.
We are often sent incredible images from readers during their travels and are always amazed at the quality of pictures being obtained by “amateur photographers”. Footprint readers seem to have an eye for a picture and as a result of reader requests, we have decided to set up files which allow people to share their experiences, and to put forward their images for potential use in future Footprint travel guides.
So, if you’d love to see your picture in print in one of the world’s leading travel guides, look no further. We’re looking for creative and original travel photography, images that really capture the essence of a place. If you feel that you have what we are looking for then simply upload your image directly into the relevant country folder and if the image is suitable we will be more than happy to pay you a flat fee of £10 to include it within our guidebooks and other media.
If you’re not ready to share your travels and photography with anyone else, at least take a few moments to have a browse through the library – it might provide some inspiration for where you can go next!
Rules and regs for the Footprint Photo Library
1) Join the group
2) Submit as many images as you like for consideration
3) All images need to be labelled and include the location of where the photo was taken in the description e.g “La Sagrada Familia, Barcelona”
Important Please makes sure your image is tagged with the relevant region. We can't accept submissions that aren't. The regions are:
Latin America
Asia
Africa & Middle East
Australasia
North America
Europe
4) You are encouraged to geotag your photos. Click here for an explanation of how to geotag www.flickr.com/help/map/?search=geotag#204
5) Footprint will only pay for and use the images deemed suitable – there is no payment for submitting images to the library that are not selected for use
6) For each image used Footprint will pay £10
7) Any images selected for use by Footprint will have non-exclusive worldwide language rights for all media, this also includes up to 50,000 hard copy print run
8) You may use digital processing to optimise an image, but you are not permitted to add or remove key elements of the composition
9) Footprint will contact you via your profile if an image is selected for use within our books
10) If an image is selected you will need to have the following file size available for use in print: 3-4MB, 2592 x 3972 pixels, 8.6” x 12.9”, A4
11) A Paypal account is essential for payment of images
12) Footprint reserve the right to remove unacceptable images from the library
13) All photo’s must adhere to Flickr’s terms of usage, for a reminder of these check this link www.flickr.com/guidelines.gne
