Junk Food Addiction

The pandemic of obesity threatens to wipe out all gains in life expectancy since the beginning of the 20th century and could destroy the US and other "developed" nations. One third of the US and one quarter of the Canadian population is obese (BMI over 30). The cost in dollars and suffering is horrendous. It's time to stop ignoring this issue and deal with the cause - food addiction and the factors that encourage the addiction. Food addiction causes more death and misery than all drug addictions combined. And, if you care about global warming, it takes at least ten pounds of fossil fuel to make one pound of superfluous human fat.
