experimental Interestingness RSS feed

view profile

steeev is a group administrator steeev  Pro User  says:

ive made an experimental "Flickr Interestingness" RSS feed available here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/InterestingFlickr

it gets the data from the flickr.com/explore page

N.B the feed is only updated once every 30 minutes, so please set your aggregator to only check it once per half hour, thanks.

btw for an alternative to the official list of interesting Flickr images, nicolas hoizey's flickRate site has an RSS feed of the most recently FlickRated images here: flickrate.gasteroprod.com/feeds/last_photos/rss

it might be an "interesting" excercise to compare and rate the 2 feeds to see which was most "interesting" :)

I'm being prompted with the save dialog when I try to access the url. I think it may have soemthing to do with the header "Content-Disposition: Attachment" but I really have no idea.

I assume you're just scraping this page?

yep it is just scraping that page. Try it again, ive changed the mime type to text/xml and set it to "inline" rather than "attachment".

steeev, I have added the feed to my reader, but just get a little bit of text (title and user), then a dead link to /photos/[user]/[photo]/

i added the feed to RSS Bandit and all i get are text links to the images. It would be better if the images included in the feeds were readable by this aggregator. Curious if the images load in another reader. Thx

ive syndicated this feed via FeedBurner, you can now only access it at the following URL: feeds.feedburner.com/InterestingFlickr

anyone who was blocked for accessing the feed too frequently (mainly google sidebar users) can now resubscribe :)

hm, FeedReader doesn't parse the HTML in the title tag, but otherwise it seems to work fine.

[edit: Thank You Steeev :)]

@sidereal: thanks for the report. i realise quite a few readers wont parse the html in the title, and the spec doesnt allow it, but bloglines and the v.cool GreatNews parse the html in the title fine :) and i like it, so its staying for now ;-)

flickr changed the format of their interestingness page, so ive updated the feed, if you are already subscribed then you dont need to do anything as its at the same URL.

The feed posted by steeev appears to broken. So I've quickly created a new feed using the Flickr API.
