I wrote a GreaseMonkey Script called "Flickr - Multi Group Sender" (Compatible with Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera)

It lets you send images to multiple groups, it also loads much faster as it doesnt have to load all the group icons.

Heres a screenshot of it in action:

Ive also added a new function that lets you save the selection of groups that you submit to, letting you reselect them quickly the next time you need them.

In a bid to prevent group spamming, ive set an arbitrary limit to the maximum number of groups you can send to, to 30.

Theres a small counter below the select box, to show how many groups you have selected. You can also no longer submit your image to groups that its already in, these groups will appear faded out in the select box.

*UPDATE* 12/Sep//2014 Fixed for latest version of Greasemonkey (v2.2)

To get the script to run, you need to:
1) use a browser extension that will let you "spoof" the user agent, and set it to "Firefox 21"

This will revert the site to the older photopage design, and will allow the script to run.

If you like this script, please Donate to support the hard work that has gone into it, and is required to update it and maintain it.

You can get the Multi Group Sender script and read the FAQ here

This script and all my other Flickr GM scripts are available here: steeev.freehostia.com/flickr

Please donate to show your support! Though this script is being given away for free, it is not free for me to develop it, many, many hours have been spent programming, testing and supporting it. If you appreciate my work, and would like to thank me, and also support future development and maintenence, please consider making a donation, big or small, every little helps. My paypal link is available on my website and also on my profile page.

It's nice, but is there any way to remove images from the group now? I used to use the drop down list and simply click on the cross if I wanted to remove it...
admin
there are a few ways of removing images from a pool. heres a couple: if you look on the right hand side of your photo's page, there is a column saying "this photo also belongs to", underneath that is the list of groups the photo is in, each group it is in has a little cross next to it, clicking the crosses removes the photo from those groups.

another way is if you disable the script, in the tools/manage user scripts window, it will revert to the original behaviour, that you are thinking of.

Id like to send multiple images to single groups ... like my 'our wedding' private group. No spam issues there. ;)

As for spamming a group - if you took the piss you'd just get booted and banned anyway so I doubt you need worry about that steeev.

yeah thats what i was thinking too, fgt, though i couldnt think of a legitimate reason why anyone would want to send a single image to more than 10 groups or so, then again having said that, i sometimes find myself sending an image to 20 groups or more... oh well if you need to you can always edit the script to change the value.

theres already is a script that lets you send multiple images to the same group (amongst other cool things), its called flickr batch operations enhancer by a guy called lachie, its pretty cool, it doesnt work with gm 0.3.5 due to the removal of the GM API functions, but might work with the latest GM beta 0.5, anyone tried it out yet?
dazzling ray [deleted] 13 years ago
Wow Ill keep an eye on this one!

Im sure Ive said it before, and I know Ill say it again ..... I love all this, its sooo exciting what can be done in Firefow to enhance Flickr.

Way cool! (hip?) ;)
Claudecf 13 years ago
I second fgt!

Now if the same beauties existed for SETS, that would be wonderful.
I'd love the "add to set" menu to be alphabetized and also the function of adding to several sets.
Having to go through the organizr is still such a pain and a lengthy process...

Thanks once more, Steeeve! I appreciate your contributions.
Todd Ehlers 13 years ago
Claudecf--I second that.

Why is it that the "enable multiple groups" option only comes up occasionally? It seems to make a random appearance, and rarely when I want it to.
clickykbd 13 years ago
It seems completely broken for me:
Fire Fox 1.0.6
Windows XP Tablet
Greasemonkey 0.5.3

@version 1.0 19-August-2005

No other userscripts installed.

I just get the no JS dropdown page

ive only tested it on GM 0.3.4 + 0.3.5 so its quite possible its not yet compatible with the latest versions of GM.

Great script! Works perfectly!
Claudecf 13 years ago
For some reason, sometimes, the script won't work. I won't get the 'enable several groups' part.

Latest GM, Firefox 1.06, MacOS Tiger

Excellent, I've really been missing this one.

Is anyone else having problems with this latest version? I have used it since I got it and it worked fine, but I think that was running under Windows. I've been trying to add some images to groups this evening on Linux and the script is not working properly.

In single group mode it works perfectly but in multiple group mode, after clicking the button to send, the Sending to n groups message is displayed, followed by the names of the groups, then nothing. No progress indicators are added next to the group names and the image is not added to any of the groups.
mortimer? 13 years ago
I am using it on OS X and its working fine for me. I'll try to test it tomorrow on Linux.
Steve Crane 13 years ago
I'm at work now and used it to add my images to some groups under Windows where it worked fine.
mortimer? 13 years ago
works fine for me under Linux. I tested it to send with the multiple send mode and I saw the progress thingy and the photo was correctly poster.

ive fixed a couple of bugs in the script, and also added a compatibility fix kindly supplied by CK, to make the script compatible with his super batch script, as previously the 2 scripts were clashing.
admin
steeev 13 years ago
ive fixed it to work with flickr gamma.
eτi 13 years ago
The old script still worked in Gamma except with an odd font.. I'll replace it anyway.

steeev Posted 13 years ago. Edited by steeev (admin) 13 years ago
eti, as the writer of the script, i think im pretty well placed to determine whether the script was working or not. did you actually try sending an image to multiple groups using the script? i tested it myself and it was not working, i wouldnt have gone to all the trouble of updating the script if it was working...

...of course there is the possibility that you were not using the most up to date version of the script at the time, in which case it might still have worked, though the previously unfixed bugs would have still been there, so yes its best to update to this latest version.
Mr.Child♫ 13 years ago
well done! Thanks!
eτi 13 years ago
Steeev it was working on my computer but looked very ood so it needed fixing anyway! But it's quite possible that I missed the latest update.
Of course I installed your latest version and that works perfectly. It's one of the most useful GM scripts there are - keep up the good work!

ive added a new function, that saves your group selection in a cookie, so next time u return you can easily reselect the same groups. ive also changed it so it starts up in multi select mode.
admin
steeev 13 years ago
Ive added a new function that lets you save the selection of groups that you submit to, so you can quickly reselect them the next time you need them.

For example say you wanted to submit an image to a few different photoshop groups and you realise that you might need to send other images to the same selection of groups in the future.

You can now save the selection of groups by ticking the checkbox next to the add button, on clicking the add button you will be asked to give a name to your selection of groups. your image will be submitted to the groups you selected, and the selection of groups you chose will be saved under the name you supplied. next time you return to the page to submit another image, you can choose from your previously saved selections using the secondary select box below the main one, this will make selecting multiple groups that you submit to regularly much quicker. theres also a delete button, which lets you delete group selections.

steeev 13 years ago
oops i accidentally left some debugging code in the script that would display alerts when deleting group selections, ive removed it now.

mortimer? 13 years ago
There is a bug somewhere (no time to debug more tonight). If a group has a ' in the title, the posting won't work. Are you doing some sort of funny eval somewhere?
admin
steeev Posted 13 years ago. Edited by steeev (admin) 13 years ago
mortimerpa, i thought i fixed that bug, try getting the latest version if you havent already got it.

update: i can confirm that the latest version of the script doesnt have this bug, you must be using quite an old version, as this was fixed in v1.21

from the sourcecode:
"v1.21 11-May-2006 : Minor bugfix: can now submit to group names with single quotes in them."

the current version of the script is 1.61
mortimer? Posted 13 years ago. Edited by mortimer? (member) 13 years ago
With version 1.61, the bug is still there. I get the error:

missing ) after argument list
sendmail('90379689@N00','155960962','B E A U T I F U L [photos with a beautiful' comment]')3

as you can see it only replaces the first ' in the name (before beautiful), but not the second one (after beautiful).

The replace is not correct on line 399, I tried:
grpname=nmSelected[i].replace(/\'/g,''); // strip out the nasties

and this one (with a RegEx with option g:global instead of a String) works fine.

TylerKnott 13 years ago
The script seems to have stopped working as of tonight, 6-6-06...coincidence? Mark of the beast? Hmmm. Any idea Steev?
mortimer? 13 years ago
works fine for me.
admin
steeev Posted 13 years ago. Edited by steeev (admin) 13 years ago
@tylerknott: its working for me too. you may have installed a script that is somehow clashing with my script, try disabling the scripts that you have installed after M.G.S one by one to see which one it is. you could also try uninstalling and reinstalling the M.G.S script.
Martin Terber Posted 12 years ago. Edited by Martin Terber (member) 12 years ago
It worked fine until today. Because I didn't find the option "Save Group Selection" I tried reinstalling it. But:
It stopped working after I did that...

FF 1.5.0.4
GM 0.6.4

I uninstalled all other scripts, then I uninstalled greasemonkey and reinstalled it. No effect.

... Now there is this odd Flickr standard "send to group" dropdown again....

Edit: I didn't realize that the script still works fine on my other photos. So if you experience the same problems: Keep patient, try other pics. It might be for the reason that your photo is in too many groups already.
admin
steeev Posted 12 years ago. Edited by steeev (admin) 12 years ago
its working fine for me, tho i havent tried out ff1.5.04 yet. anyone else having problems with getting scripts to run with this latest browser version?
admin
steeev Posted 12 years ago. Edited by steeev (admin) 12 years ago
@Jesus Presley, i had an idea of what might be the problem. You told me that the image that the script wasnt working with was in around 60 groups, well if its in that many groups, the page is going to take a long time to load, and this script only starts working once the page has finished loading, so if you dont wait for the page to finish loading and click the send to group button, the original send to group function will be triggered.

btw you might like to read this thread about having your photo in "too many" groups, as apparently it negatively affects the interestingness score, in case you are bothered about that kind of thing.
mortimer? 12 years ago
I updated this morning to 1.5.04 and have no problem with that script.

yes this functionality is already built into flickr, look on the photo's page on the right hand side, it lists the groups the photo is in.
And..being able to delete them from a group with this script?
If you install my Group Pool Admin - Warn + Delete script, it now has functionality for removing photos from multiple pools, by clicking the [X['s next to the pool names all without leaving or reloading the photos main page.

ive updated the script again, now it no longer takes u away from the photo page, it pops up the "send to group" form in a floating dhtml popup window above your photo page.

Greasemonkey script: Flickr Multi Group Sender Bug
Andreas Helke Posted 12 years ago. Edited by Andreas Helke (member) 12 years ago
BTW I am a member in several hundred groups and sometimes want to add a photo to more than 25 relevant groups. Then I find it annoying to be told to try again with fewer groups. Compared to the 94451 groups flickr has today 25 is just a too small number.

I just counted my group memberships. I am now member of about 800 groups. Its amazing how splintered flickrs group system is. Of course I contributed to it by creating 34 groups myself which have 2470 members. I found later that I created some duplicates of existing groups. But most of my groups are unique.
Remiss63 12 years ago
i'm trying the Multi-Group Sender for the first time. It seems like a fantastic solution to a nagging problem. However, I'm not clear how I can select mulitple individual groups that are not sequential in the list. When I use the Shift or Ctrl keys to try to select more than one group, then all of the groups between those two are also highlighted.

There's got to be something I'm missing.
vasta 12 years ago
remiss, are you using a mac or a pc?

if you're on a mac, just select one group, and then select the next group while holding down the apple key.

if you're on a pc, the same drill applies, but use the ctrl key instead of the apple key.

you can deselect the same way, just ctrl/apple click on the group you want to deselect.

yes, this works perfectly . . . thank you !

Hey steeev,
thanks for creating this script. it works perfect on a MAC with firefox 1.5.
But (you knew I was getting somewhere, right?) I'd love to run it on Safari. I tried it with Creammonkey but unfortunately it didn't fly. It would be great if you could take a look at that. Please contact me if I can assist you with anything...

I've just discovered this script. Every time I loaded images to groups, I was mentally designing this tool and wondering why Flickr didn't have something so obviously needed. This script is a tremendous boost to productivity.

Steeev, you deserve a place in the history of Humankind.
Martin Terber 12 years ago
Seems that the Maximum Group Number is set to 30 now, isn't it?
paulaloe 12 years ago
This is a great script and works amazingly.

My only suggestin, if you are getting close to the limit (I think its 25) you have no way of seeing that until you actually try to post and then it tells you. I would be nice to know how many groups you have selected along the way.

A small suggestion on an outstanding script.

Any idea when an update might be available? I'd love to try this script, but I'm using Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 and 0.6.6.20061017.0 on a MacBook Pro.

This is a terrific script which I have been using for some time.  One suggestion, though, is that if you have a lot of groups, it would be useful to be able to search on the groups and be able to more easily find a particular group that would be suitable for a particlar photo
mortimer? 12 years ago
The script doesn't seem to know how to handle the "photo put in the moderation queue" reply by flickr. It says there was an error, but in fact the photo was sent fine.

So the script works, but you shouldn't believe him if it shows an error with this message next to it.
