alto maltés Thank you so much for this script.
I like notes, think they have a useful place, but I can't tell you how often my enjoyment of a photo has been diminished because of a thoughtlessly placed note. It's really hard to get that initial image out of the mind.
This is the way the feature should be implemented. in my opinion It's respectful of everyone - photographer, note placer, and viewers. Thank you!

Hmmm ... I was gonna let some folks know about this over in Flickr Ideas, when I stumbled upon this GM Script to block notes. (I haven't tried it.)

Wow! This is FANTASTIC. Thank you so much for sharing this.
I too wonder why Flickr didn't do it this way.

Pixel Wrangler I've tried that script. It removes the notes without a trace if I recall. That's ok if you never want to see or know about notes but if you just want to have control over when you see the notes alto maltés script is the way to go. It is by far the best implementation of notes I have seen.

I'm running alto's scipt, Flickr disable/enable photo notes, and love it.
I just looked at a photo (one of my contacts), and saw a note that had been added by the contact (herself). There wasn't any blurb under the photo that "This photo has Notes" ...
Is this by design -- that a note added by the owner of the photo will show up, or a glitch?
I wonder what would happen if there were notes from both the owner and from a viewer ...

Pixel Wrangler, no it’s not by design... it's a bug!
On the assumption that all photos with notes display the blurb, I used the presence of the blurb as an indicator that the photo has notes… so that if a photo doesn’t have any notes, the script doesn’t stay trying to hide them… wrong assumption!
I’ll sort it out… thanks!

Hmmm ... I'm torn ;-)
On the one hand, the added note from the owner "adds a lot" to the overall sentiment of the photograph.
On the other hand, the purpose of the script is to "remove notes".
(And yes, the toggle feature would allow one to see it ... but I doubt I would use it, and thus would miss that added sentiment.) It's interesting in that an owner can add a note, while still disabling others to leave a note.
Ahhh ... if this is my biggest dilemma, I'm doing pretty well ;-)

Pixel Wrangler, apparently Flickr doesn’t insert the “blurb” when the photo contains no description (such as the photo you pointed me to). I’ve updated the script so that the way in which it detects whether there are notes or not is independent of the blurb’s presence, and if it is missing, it introduces it. All you have to do is reinstall… Thank you!

alto maltés -- FWIW, it is now working on that same photo, and I haven't reinstalled the script.
Perhaps a reinstall isn't necessary (?)

Pixel Wrangler, hehe. It might be related to the fact that in the meantime you added a comment to that same photo… so let us consider ourselves lucky to have discovered the bug!
The updated version is better… it will work in more circumstances than the former… so if I were you I’d reinstall!

alto maltés, oh you are the aware one! Very good catch -- I would have missed that simple fact for sure!
I have reinstalled the script -- thank you.

I’m glad you find the script useful :)
In this zone of the Flickrverse when we want something we build a script that does it. Viva Greasemonkey! :)

Dan Goorevitch: go to the beginning of this thread. Click on the "install" link. That will bring you to the script page at userscripts.org. Click there on the prominent, green "Install" button. Follow instructions.
This assumes you already have GreaseMonkey installed.
