Hmm I see right now it's set to work only on Groups.. can this be modified to work on photo-stream comments also? .. would love to have a script to do inline edits on comments!

changed my mind about adding it to photo comments, that feature wont be that useful for me.
anyway ive updated the script, ive fixed the bugs and it now works on the first post of a thread, and also works in the help forum.

: Oh that's too bad =( .. Guess us non-programmers will have to wait for some of the cool programmers around here to decide that they don't like hitting the edit button on comments anymore :D

ive updated the script so it really is inline now, previously it put the textarea below the edit link, now it puts it above the link.

ive fixed a bug and added some features: the script failed if the post had a blockquote tag in it, this is now fixed. Ive also merged the "forum post easy delete" script into this one, so if you have that one installed you should uninstall it. i also added a search and replace function.

too bad that it works only in groups. i tried to add www.flickr.com/photos/* to the pages it works on but of course it can't be as easy as that... probably some programming (which i know nothing about) would be needed to make it work on comments as well.

i love this script. especially for one of the groups i administrate, where editing/deleting forum posts is the primary function of an admin, it's invaluable. thanks!
one question: the addition of the search + replace function disables my rich text edit script. is it possible to turn this aspect off? (i really haven't had any use for it, but routinely need to bold part of an edited post.) if there's a way to tweak the coding....

I second the request for the ability to separate these functions. I know they were separate scripts once upon a time -- would love to see the "easy delete" function in its own script again.

ive updated the script so it should now work with all the international versions of the site and also the latest GM and FF
btw if you want to disable the search and replace function, you can just "comment out" or delete lines 137 and 138 though i doubt that will "bring back" your rich text editing functions, as the textareas this script uses are created "on the fly", so unless your other script is waiting and watching for newly created textareas, it wont work.

fabio, what happens when you click save? can you check the error console from the firefox tools menu?
btw ive updated the script so you can now edit / delete comments on photos.
N.B You should uninstall the old version before installing the new version, as ive renamed the script.

for those of you wanting the rich text editing functions to work with my inline post editor, ive made a modified version of Jrhyley and Todd Moons, rich text editor script, that watches for newly created textareas, and adds the rich text features. More info here: www.flickr.com/groups/flickrhacks/discuss/721576001673445...

steeev, i for one would like to say THANK YOU!!! these updates are the best thing in the world to me right now. as an admin for a group that has highly interactive (and highly edited) discussion threads, the inline forum post editor is my only can't-do-without-it script. now that it's fully functional with the latest versions of firefox and gm, i'm ecstatic.
as for the double lines of rich text editing, well, better too many than too few... ;-)
thanks again!

I have narrowed it down to happening if you are editing a comment on an image page, but not on a discussion page.
If that helps.

This is great, but I do have a question.
Is there any way to still get the egreene7 edited this topic ____ ago.? As an administrator and moderator, I think this is important for the other members to see who has been editing their posts.

If that helps. I had noticed that bug recently, thanks for helping me narrow it down to the photo page. it turns out that the comments in photostreams have slightly different html to those in groups. ive updated the script to fix the issue.

script updated 23rd Sep 2009
added inline edit/delete functionality for comments on gallery pages
fixed the problem with "character entitites" getting converted to their actual characters.
e.g : > getting converted to >
ive also updated my modified version of todd moon + jrhyleys rich text editor script to include todd moon's latest changes, to make it compatible with this script. The Modified rich text editor script is here

Is this the right place to report bugs?
If you click edit for the first post of a thread, and then click it again (I know, not very useful), the edit box get filled with more text.
If you then click Cancel, the edit boxes get emptied, but stay on screen, and the original text of the post is gone!
Luckily, a refresh restores the post to its original state.

alesa, thanks for the report, though its unlikely many people will try clicking the edit button twice, ive fixed the bug anyway.
btw its not luck that the refresh restores the post to the original state, its by design. the script will not permanently change the original post unless the user clicks the save button.

The text you edit is HTML converted, so some symbols are replaced by HTML entities by the Flickr interface for editing.
I'm not sure it's a real drawback, since you know the 'real' string you are editing. And I suppose the author of the extension would have to implement some sort of tiny HTML WYSIWYG editor in his script if he tried to get rid of that.

For information the conflict (Colaps the comment box when i use your script) was with this very useful "text area resizer" :
Textarea Drag Resize by > Glenn Carr > 2009
but now, i see no problem with it (?).
All GM scripts with this action that i have tested , can't resize your inline Box ...
And of course, I'll be happy if you give this function directly in your in line editor!
Ps :
> is always convert by its HTML entities >...
It's an little inconvenient when forget that and i copy past a long post like this one ,into notepad++ , to make a backup...:

"All GM scripts with this action that i have tested , can't resize your inline Box " :
Now Firefox can do it !
I search alway a way to Escape HTML Entities in TextAreas...
I Found a GM script , Escape HTML Entities in TextAreas, but it seems not working.

I've tried to add flickr/activity/* i the authorized pages but no success :o(((
Should it work on those pages or does the code need some modification ???
Edit after having a quick look at the code:
Well ... Code needs some modification to handle "activity" page .... If you have some time to spend on it, that should be a great improvment imho ;o)))
