Just a couple questions. I've read through the whole thread and can't seem to find the answers so forgive me if I'm not seeing them.
1) Insert Image: This only brings up the last 20 photos I've posted and it's only posting the small size, is this correct or is there a way to browse through more of my photos?
2) Insert HTML: Most of the time, I'd like to be able to just enter html myself without having to use that tool. Does all html have to be entered using that?
3) I don't suppose there is a way to have use of the smileys without the other tools?
4) Finally, I agree with the person that mentioned the cursor issue. I would prefer to have the cursor change rather than stay a pointer in the comment box. It confused me at first but I'm sure I could get used to it
Otherwise, thanks for this script!

1) yeah sorry, may improve that later
2) yeah sorry, if you try to enter html it'll be encoded and will just display raw
3) no plans to do that but feel free to hack it out
4) thats a FF bug as far as i can see, might be a workaround though

I noticed that Flickr's now having EXIF data appear when you mouseover images.
this data appears appended to whatever I post in my comments. It stopped when I disabled FlickrCommentTools
update -
it's this script that it's getting the data from
Flickr EXIF decorator userscripts.org/scripts/show/9476
so i've disabled that one for now

It looks that the script has an error on its worksspace.
I think it should work on
http://www.flickr.com/groups/*/discuss/*
and not
http://www.flickr.com/groups/*/discuss/
This shold be very easy to fix.

I've updated it today, I've cleared the cache, but it still isn't working properly. I only can add a smile or a pic into my comment, but can't write.
When a smile is inserted, it allows me to write on a new line, but I find it inconvenient.....

I think I'd like to try and improve this script a bit.
The last 20 images limitation is a little annoying, so I'm thinking if it had all your photostream available plus the last x photos you've visited.
The Insert HTML feature isn't great, it'd be better to have an "Edit HTML" tab that let you switch between the normal plain text view and the wysiwyg.
Anything else worth adding?

I think the "Edit HTML" feature would be great. I often find myself wanting to edit the HTML that I previously inserted.
Other than that, picking up some of the additional "hidden" emoticons would be handy:

Great!! Maybe more easy to understand:
-Search flickrcommenttools.user.js (in your Hard Disk)
-Edit the file with Notepad
-Search the word src="'+this.url+'"
-Replace with src="'+this.src+'"
-Save
Ready!
--------------------
Spanish
-Busca flickrcommenttools.user.js (en tu disco rigido)
-Edita ese archivo con el Bloc de Notas
-Alli dentro buscar la frase: src="'+this.url+'"
-Reemplazarla con src="'+this.src+'"
-Guardar..
Listo!

The offset on the smiley portion of this tool was driving me nuts with the new flickr photo page layout. The following modification took care of the problem for me:
In:
prototype.CheckSize = function(){
Change:
this.offsetTop = (document.body.clientHeight/2)-(this.ele.offsetHeight/2);
To:
this.offsetTop = (document.body.clientHeight/4)-(this.ele.offsetHeight/2);
It has helped keep the smiley LightWeightBox position on the screen for a larger variety of photos (the number of comments/favorites was really messing with things. I suspect the change in buddy icon size was hosing things up.)

SunCat, you are a genius - 've got it.
It's a bit weird to find the file, because this progamm files are hidden. so I had to find out first, how to make the programm files visible, not so easy in Windos7 - then I could find the complete path is:
»C:\Users\YOUR NAME\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\p4o1fj6u.default\gm_scripts\flickrcommenttools\flickrcommenttools.user.js«
Thank you very much

I just wish I knew a bit more about Greasemonkey. My mod is just a bit of hack to get it to not drop off of the page when there are lots of comments. I'm sure the most recent maintainer will end up being a bit more elegant with a long-term fix.
As a side note: On my system, I can fire up an editor on the script directly from the browser:
Tools->Greasemonkey->Manage User Scripts
From this popup window, select the script you want to manage (FlickrCommentTools in this case) and press the Edit button. If you have an editor defined (probably something like notepad or wordpad in your case), it should open up with the script you need ready for changes.

Still had some problems - Windows 7 and the new Flickr pages:
On square images the script was blocked again, so I changed
To:
this.offsetTop = (document.body.clientHeight/40)-(this.ele.offsetHeight/40);
and the smilies box is now quite in the middle, working
perfect on all image sizes
happy now with it -

cheers
Paul

I loved this script and, even though I have made the edit suggested here it is still not working properly for me. If I 'preview' a comment containing an emoticon, I am not able to 'edit' it.
Can anyone help, or adopt this script and make it work again properly, please?

I was still having trouble with certain images if there were a lot of previous comments. I finally just hard-coded the offset to 600. This may need to be tweaked a bit depending on the default size of browser window you use. My line now looks like:
this.offsetTop = 600;
I see what you mean about 'preview' destroying the comment tool box. I don't hit preview, and, if I need to edit a previous comment, I use the 'Insert HTML' mode toggle and copy/paste to edit the previous comment (copying back and forth between the original comment and a new comment window). A pain, but it works. (I wish I knew more about GM and javascript to do more to the original tool).

Thanks
SunCat - sorry I missed your posting (internet probs at that time). Toggling back and forth is, as you say, not ideal but seems the best option in the circumstances - thanks!
J.Chin Photography - I found that following SunCat's instructions above but using the offset height suggested by Licht~~~~ here worked for my laptop monitor, bringing the emoticons up into view (they had been so far down the photo page that I couldn't see them). It is a bit fiddly if, like me, you're not familiar with editing scripts but it worked.
I haven't tried the latest edit suggested by SunCat on my desktop (bigger monitor) yet, but it looks as though it might be the solution for the 'disappearing emoticons' on the new photo page . Good luck

I could manage all, with your help,
everything was working fine.
Firefox updated to FF 4.0something
- and again nothing is working .
If I activate comment tools then everything is blocked.
Even the tool-bar above the commentbox isn't there any more.
The only GM scrips working are:
"Commentbox up"
" Add refer comment"
all other useful GMscripts don't work any more
Sadly.

10 September 2011
I've just installed firefox 6.0.2 (previously had kept version 3.6.21 due to reports of problems with some greasemonkey scripts).
My 'flickr comment tools' (amended as above) now will not show any options AT ALL above the comment box though it seems to be initiated as this post is not showing my tag edits when the script is enabled, as there is now no option to select 'html' mode eg:
<i>this should be in italics</i> :(
I notice there have also been some changes to flickr pages overnight last night GMT (eg in flickrmail) so am unsure if it is a change to flickr or the new firefox browser which has caused the problem.
Any help/advice would be very gratefully received. I'm not very good at techi terminology etc. but I *did* manage to edit the 'flickr comment tools' script as suggested above in this thread, which is about my limit of expertise :)

Re: malfunction of this script since installing firefox 6.0.2 (see post directly above this one):
As there have been no suggestions for a fix and after trying to tinker with the script myself (with no success) I have uninstalled firefox v.6.0.2 and re-installed version 3.6.21 and, hey presto

11 May 2012:
Update on my previous problems with this script failing to work.
I installed Firefox v11 browser and the script began functioning perfectly again
It also worked with the FFox v12 until today, when it failed again.
I see reports today in another flickr hacks discussion that Greasemonkey's new update TODAY to v.0.9.19 is problematic for another script. See here:
www.flickr.com/groups/flickrhacks/discuss/72462/page4/#co...
I have re-installed Greasemonkey v.0.9.18 as suggested in the above post, and 'flickr comment tools' is working perfectly again

I just installed this script for the first time, and it works OK here in a discussion thread, but when I select the smiley button on a photostream comment, all I get is a greyed out screen, the smileys selection box never appears and there is no way out other than to do a back.
FF12, GM 0.9.18

jeffs4653 - I'm not an expert but, if you follow the instructions/suggestions for editing the script above, it worked for me on photo pages and was just a case of replacing one line of code :)
Here is my post (from higher up this thread) which has links to the relevant 2 previous edit suggestions:
www.flickr.com/groups/flickrhacks/discuss/721575945743828...
The first, suggested by SunCat worked but, depending on (perhaps?) monitor size you may find 's option suits you better.
Good luck!

Sadly - this smilie-gm script is removed and replaced by the wellknown "Insert your own pic" and this doesn't work either - really frustrating.
I've deleted all this - fed up by the permanent problems.
Ther are better and stabile GM-script for Flickr with smilies here

..looks

and more like this,
works nice - the bar is above the commentbox

and this GM-script works fine as well

looks like this:

The bar is above the commentbox as well,
works perfect.
Only disadvantage: Insertion point is always at the endmost.
Me hope it solves the problem.
