GM Script: AllSizes v2.0.3

view profile

premasagar says:

UPDATE: 14th August, 2010

AllSizes has been updated to work with Flickr's new photo page menu. The information at the top of this thread is currently out-of date.

See this comment for details on upgrading to AllSizes v2:
www.flickr.com/groups/flickrhacks/discuss/721575943037986...

=====

GM Script: AllSizes+ (by premasagar)

To use this script:
1. Install the Firefox browser and fire it up
2. Install Greasemonkey and restart the browser
3. Install AllSizes+
4. Go to a photo page and click the "All Sizes" button

Summary
AllSizes+ gives you quick access to the different sizes available for a photo on Flickr. It produces better HTML code for posting photos on to blogs and Flickr discussion threads, lets you quickly view and download images, and does a few other things too.

Simply install the script and click the AllSizes button on any photopage. Further documentation and settings are available in the pop-up window that appears.

Features
• Quickly choose between any of the available sizes
• Better HTML to post photos on blogs and Flickr discussion threads
• Appends '(by *Username*)' to the title and alt attributes
• Gives 'Untitled' for untitled photos
• Download images, copy the code to your clipboard, view the image
• BB Code for posting photos on forums and bulletin boards
• Video still images can be accessed as if they were photos
• Shortcut keys for quick actions
• Default settings can be modified
• Automatically checks for updates

Respecting Copyright
Please respect the copyright attributed to a photo. You should only re-post a photo if the license permits it or if the owner has given you specific permission. Karma is as karma does...

The AllSizes Button
Some users have their Flickr account set to restrict downloads on their photos. This is usually done as a deterrent against people misusing their photos. By default, Flickr will not show the AllSizes button on such user's photos.

There are many reasons why people may legitimately want to use the AllSizes button. For example, those who want to see the details present in a large-size image, or those who want to download images for their personal, offline use, or those who want to talk about photos in Flickr discussion groups and use the HTML code to post the relevant photo.

The script will add the AllSizes button to a photo if it is not already present, but it will only show those image sizes that are already viewable on the Flickr website. In other words, it will not show the Original size image for that photo.

(The script used to always give access to the Original size. Some people felt that this was a good thing, others not. Either way, Flickr has since changed the system so that it is now impossible to access the Original size if the owner has chosen to hide it. So that solved that debate...)

You will always be able to use the script for your own photos (if you are logged in), regardless of your privacy settings.

Uninstalling
To uninstall a Greasemonkey script from your browser, go to the Tools menu, select Greasemonkey, then Manage User Scripts, highlight the script and click Uninstall.

v2.0.3 released
This is a bug fix affecting Firefox and the image src in the "Grab the image" menu option. Thanks for the report, @*BZd*.

Either wait for the script's auto-updater to kick in (it checks once per day), or click here: userscripts.org/scripts/source/6178.user.js

By the way, is everyone finding the auto-updater working OK?

premasagar : The autoupdater notified me about the new version, and after installing everything is fine again. Thank you for the prompt fix.
One annoying thing about the autoupdater is if I open more pages at the same time when an update is avaliable GM offers me to install the update as many times how much pages I opened. For example I open my contact page and start open let's say 5 new photos in new tabs, I get the GM update pop-up 5 times. I had this phenomenon earlier with other GM scripts with autoupdater feature, so it's the autoupdater, not allSizes.

@premasagar no autoupdater has some bugs for sure.

It was asking me if I want to update to version 2.0.2 all the time the flickr page loaded and nothing changed when I agreed.

I had to navigate here, remove plugin, download it again and now it seems fine.

I`m on Chrome.

Cool. Thanks for the feedback. The auto-updater code is my own, and it's integrated from within the script. I had my suspicions about its behaviour in Chrome, which behaves differently than Firefox on this, and I'm not yet sure what I can do to work around it. Essentially, Chrome seems to be keeping the old version in memory, even after you update the script. Some research required...

Because the version of the script that you have installed still has the code that causes these issues, you might see the same behaviour when I next release an update. Hopefully after that, though, it'll be resolved.

@ATK195 - Brilliant. Thanks for letting me know.

Thanks, I was missing this. A couple of questions though. In the previous version a title="" attribute was added to the HTML img tag this was very useful for captioning images is there any chance of adding this back in. Also I'd like to strip out the width and height attributes from the img tag as I find these annoying when you change an image size.

Yep... It's this way with all my Chrome extensions... Best bet is to uninstall the old version & reinstall the new one. :-)

First of all, fantastic work! I was wondering if anything can be done to enable AllSizes for "non-downloadable" images like this:

www.flickr.com/photos/noretta_imma/3877911069

I took a quick look at the source of that page, and it doesn't look like the necessary structure is in place for AS to get its hooks in in.

BernardoDelgado  Pro User  says:

I guess it is possible, but not legal, and that could cause some headaches to premasagar and of course to photographers. Its not nice to find your pictures being used in comercial stuff without your permission, and that could be so easy if we all could download anyones pictures in original size.

mattlycra says:

I'm not talking about getting the original image size. That's not even possible anymore. I'm talking about the images that have been marked as "non-downloadable".

I put that in quotes, because any image has to be downloaded in order to be displayed. It's relatively easy to use Firebug or other tools to circumvent the basic measures in place to keep people from saving the images, but it would be nice if I didn't have to do that. There's nothing illegal about anything I'm suggesting.

Indeed, the AllSizes script is already enabling the Share button when it normally wouldn't be enabled. All I was asking is if the script could be made functional where it's currently breaking in an ugly way. Alternatively, it could be made to fail more gracefully.

premasagar says:

@Walwyn - Yes, I'd like to make this possible, with a "Custom" option, to construct your own desired code.

@Wil C. Fry - It also looks like you can close and restart Chrome to kick the update into effect.

@mattlycra - what's broken for you on that page?

This version 6178.user.js for the new format photo pages doesn't appear to work at all in my Opera browser.
Using the previous script in the old style Flickr pages I'd see a thumbnail image of the photo at the top right hand of the page directly above the member's icon; right clicking on that thumbnail would give access to the menu including "save image". Now I see nothing similar.
Would someone please take pity and explain to me what I should be seeing now to confirm the script is correctly installed and working (I put it in the same folder as the old one had been so the paths should all be correct) and where I can click in order to save the image, and should I be looking on the image page (the one with the comments etc.) or the all-sizes page?
Thanks in advance.

It may just be that not many people are using Opera...

For what it's worth, I'm downloading Opera's latest version right now to see if I can replicate your problem.

Sorry. I couldn't replicate your problem.

Here's what I did:

1) Installed latest version of Opera (10.62) here
2) Followed userscript installation instructions for Opera here
3) Opened Flickr & signed into my account.

The script worked for me...

This script is actually meant to help people get the "All Sizes" html/bb code for posting images on other sites.

For downloading, right-click on the image, choose your size, and then click the download link. (This will only work on images where the owner has enabled downloading, or for your own images.) It's built into Flickr; no need for a script. :-)

Thank you so much for not only replying but also going to all that trouble of installing Opera etc on my behalf!
I really appreciate it.

As I tried to explain in my first post the problem is that I just have no idea where I should now be seeing the download link? (when using the old greasemonkey script in the old Flickr format it was so obvious and so easy!)
Now I see no difference in the pages with or without the script.

Thanks again for your help

I'm not at all a fan of the new "AllSizes" update (v2.0.3). It may be great for some but I'd rather the first very b/c it's quicker and more convenient for my uses (much less clicks). How do I keep the first version w/o getting the pop-up every time I right click on a photo?

premasagar says:

@גזע מקסיקני בעל פרי קטן וקל :
The first version of AllSizes does not work with Flickr's new interface. Flickr has now integrated much of AllSizes' original functionality and convenience into the actual website (whether that was direct inspiration AllSizes, or just common sense on Flickr's part, I don't know). So, the new AllSizes is very much trimmed down. Since the new Flickr now has a "Share" menu, I've integrated AllSizes into that menu - although by the sound of some people's feedback, perhaps the script is a bit too subtle and would benefit by more explicitly showing users what is new.

Please could you tell me specifically what do you find takes more clicks than AllSizes v1?

==

@Wil C. Fry & OwaisPhotography
The built-in Flickr functionality for right-clicking a photo takes you to a new page, which may or may not contain a link to download the photo. The AllSizes script lets you download photos from the "Share" menu that AllSizes enhances for you - see the new "Grab the Image" section. @OwaisPhotography - does that not work for you? What are you seeing?

No, and I wouldn't expect to either. Flickr removed the "All Sizes" button several months ago.

This script adds functionality to the "Share This" menu, as described by the author above.

The GreaseMonkey upgrade today has messed up many scripts.

If you have upgraded to their GM to V 0.9.0 and are having problems then try uninstalling and then install the previous version V 0.8.20100408.6

addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/versi...

And then wait until either GM is fixed or the script

Many are still fine but there are still quite a few that don't work with GM V0.9.0

For me other parts of GM were also broken (can't rearrange the scripts for instance)

I had to look that one up too - it is possible in GM 0.9 though, you just need to right-click the script which brings up a context menu with 'Move up/down/to top/to bottom'.

Magalie L'Abbé  Pro User  says:

Hi! I've just installed it, and I don't think it's working correctly for me. If I go to a new photo, I click on "share this". Nothing new (before the code was installed) happens. Then, if I click on Grab The HTML Code, I get size 500 (I want 640) - it doesn't remember my previous setting. But if I click on that same image again, it then remembers the 640 setting. (Same thing if I never click on Grab the HTML, it goes to 640 the 2nd click.) Is this normal? I thought that this was supposed to save clicks, and it isn't doing that for me at all since I have to click twice to get to 640 every time.

Thank you! :)

Wil C. Fry  Pro User  says:

For me, once I choose a size (640 for example), then that's the size I'm presented thereafter, every time. (Until I switch sizes. Each time I choose a different size, my default is changed to that new size.)
