A screenshot of the mentioned script would probably help a lot of people out in getting an idea of what the script does, just as a tip for posting about scripts.
But I like the script!

Oh! Lot of thanks for the comments! :-) Phil, I can change to show pictures about all your contacts but there's no many avalaible space to layout them... perhaps I could integrate it with the "tag your contacts" script so you could select which ones you want to list...

I think that as the contacts are already on the right, you don't really need to have them on the left again, but perhaps having two lines of photos instead of one there could be nice.
In fact, a cool thing would be to add a checkbox next to each block there, and select which one we want to see (I don't really care about my own photos for example...) and fill the space left with the one selected.

Hi Mort! I was about to do exactly that in the next version... whenever I finish the script that I'm working at right now. Hell, my English sucks :S Anyway I'm not very sure about if it would be desirable to vertically expand the home page...

Your English is fine for me ;)
Yes, maybe it's not a good idea, the thing I proposed was to expand if one of the other blocks is hidden if you see what I mean.

one thing i did notice is that the script is set to show 5 pictures from each of your contacts. Since there are only 20 spaces that means you'll only see images from the last 4 contacts on your list. I made a slight change to the script to have it show only one picture from each contact. I hope you don't mind. You can get it here.

Sorry i should be more clear. I was expecting my 'contacts recent photos' to appear on the left. As I dont have any freinds that is why there are no photos there! So, any chance of altering the script so 'contact recent photos' appear on the left? many thanks

Ooooooops! sorry everybody... I didn't noticed the comments, lot of thanks for them.
Well, Dideo, I first tryed to show only a contact and imho it wasn't so funny. I have always my home page open somewhere in the screen so I check it now and then and it's funny to see how the photos are appearing. But feel free change it if you want and thanks a lot for publishing it.
xrodgers...oops!!! yes, it's easy. Download the script and change "friends=1" for "friends=0". Then load it in your mozilla and done! ;-) You're very welcome.

thank you. for some reason I can't install that. when i click on 'install greasemonkey' there, a bar appears at the top of the page that says 'Software Installation is currently disabled. Click edit options.. to enable it and try again'. I do that and firefox goes weird - it looks like it's meant to open a window but instead a line appears in the one that's open and that's that. Any idea how i can enable software installation by some other method?

I really like this!
the left side had nothing too important... now, it's filled with more relevant stuff!!
It would be cool if you did get rid of the frist four pictures from my friends since they are already on the right... and just fill it up with four more!
Thanks for this great script.

:-D Thanks for the comment, fuji! It makes me feel good. The original script only shows the picture of your friends and I think the right side do it over all your contacts, so the content is not reallly the same (can you confirm it, please?) But it could be filtered easily... although I'm currently very busy. Perhaps next month ;-)

Hi 23hq.com/ciberado. I hope you don't mind, but I made a few changes to your script to get it working with Fx3 and the Greasemonkey. (They seemed to have tightened security a bit.) Changes in bold:
(line 14) var items = xmlDoc.evaluate("/rss/channel/item", xmlDoc, null,
(line 47) var items = xmlDoc.evaluate("/rss/channel/item", xmlDoc, null,
(line 54) var thumb = currentItem.getElementsByTagName("media:thumbnail").item(0).getAttribute("url");
That seems to have fixed it for me. Great script, I like it a lot better than Flickr's original left panel (which sucks ;)).
If you're feeling adventurous, you can try making the changes above before ciberado updates the script officially:
1. Go to your Flickr home page (click on Home at the top left).
2. Right-click on the Greasemonkey icon, then right-click again on "Flickr's Left Panel Sucks".
That should open a text editor with the script. Make the three changes, save and close. Then reload your Flickr home page and cross your fingers ;)
(If Greasemonkey pops up a File Browser instead, then it's looking for a text editor. Simply point it to C:\Windows\Notepad.exe or something similar.)
Good luck and happy browsing! :)

Hi, my name is Luci and I am a Flickr-holic ... ...
and I admit, I am illiterate when it comes to scripts and java and the likes.
One of my contacts told me about a script for most-interesting and I (not knowing what the heck it was) took a look.
From that link through a bunch of others I ended up here ... and I joined because I want to use the scripts but have no idea how to. ....
Can someone mentor me? teach me how to get this on my flickr page?
oh ... and I am not a paying member of flickr, is that perhaps one reason why nothing seems to work for me?

Find the photo you want to post, click on sizes above the photo, click on medium, copy all the the text that appears, goto the group and paste the code into the comments box, click save.
I forgot to add, I love this script!!!

Hi, can anyone help? I wanted to make the changes as suggested above, but mistakenly selected ScriptEditor, which it didn't like and now firefox won't let me try and open/edit the script in another application. Very frustrating!
Thanks for any help offered!

Oh good grief, now Flickr changed the layout of their front page again, and this hack is broken! This was by far my favorite Flickr hack, and I feel lost without it (again)! Any suggestions for making it work again, or is there a reformatted version of this hack someplace?
