Good job! I love this one. Althought I wrote a script to mashup del.icio.us and flickr, as you said, it is not as fast as yours.
One question is, after I tried the script , the style of my flickr is changed to a wide screen, even I move to a new page. How can I change it back?

ck ive fixed the problem with wide screen on all pages now, please reinstall, it only goes wide on the contact pages now.
brew.beer to delete a tag from a contact, click a tag, then look at the list of user names, follow the name to the right and there should be a -tag link.
btw im getting the same error with the filters as you, and having a hard time figuring out whats causing it, it seems to be an intermittent problem,
Does anyone know what might be causing this problem? (its a select box that wont open up to display the options inside)

ok ive found out whats causing the bug with the filters select box.
if i remove the style="display:inline" attribute from the form, the select box opens fine, if i leave it in, the select box in the form wont open. anyone know a workaround for this?
Update i came up with a workaround in the end. i removed the display:inline style from the form and then just tinkered with the top + right style properties of the element holding the form, to position it where i wanted it.
you can reinstall the script to get the fixed version.

i added a couple of new filters:
1)Photos tagged with..." + 2)"Photos text includes"
if you choose either of these filters, you will be prompted to enter some text. the script will then check whether in the case of 1) there are any photos tagged with that text by the currently selected tagged users or 2) if the titles, descriptsions or tags of those tagged users contain the text entered.
more filters are on their way.

ck, im glad u like it. you cant add multiple tags in that way at present, words separated by a space will be treated as a single tag. i might change this later though, thanks for the input.

And now that I've spent half an hour tagging my contacts at work, how do I synch them with my browser at home? :)
Perhaps there is an ability to synch with del.icio.us or something?
Also, how about an "all" tag. Most of my 200 or so contacts are people I don't know outside of flickr, and going through and tagging every one of them individually just so I can get access to the wonderful filters for my entire contact list is a daunting task...

Wonderful filter additions steeev! And the script is hugely helpful.
One thing (isn't there always?), i seem to get a duplicate name - note the name Kliendigital for two people. The first one is the right one.

It may have happened when i tried adding a tag to Kliendigital that already had that exact tag added. I did get the message that he was already tagged with 'washeville' but it may have offset something else. Hope this helps!

zen, i havent encountered that bug myself, thanks for letting me know about it. i will look out for it in future.
brendada, i think i know what the problem might be, did you attempt editing the script at all, before this happened?
btw anyone wanting to backup their tags, all you need to do is open the prefs.js file, which on windows is stored in "c:\documents and settings\[YOUR PC USERNAME]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles\[some random letters].your firefox profile name" in a text editor, then look for the lines beginning with "user_pref("greasemonkey.scriptvals.http://steeev.f2o.org/flickr//Flickr Contacts Organiser"
and copy those lines to a text file and save it somewhere. then if you want to restore the tags, just open your text file, copy the lines, then open the prefs.js file and copy your backed up lines over the old lines.
N.B you should make sure firefox is closed before attempting this, and also be really careful, as you might mess up your browser settings if you get it wrong, so only attempt this if you know what you are doing.
brendada, if you could send me those lines from your prefs.js file, i could have a look to see what the problem is.
BTW ive added 3 new filters to the script: "Faves you have in common", "Contacts you have in common" + "Recently commented photos"

My problem is that is not atually working for me.

centrifuga wrote: Hello Steeev, thank you for this nice script.

i just installed the latest FF, and the script is working fine for me. your problem could be caused by another script clashing, or it might be due to an incompatibility with the latest GM version, as i havent tested this script on the latest GM, ive tested it on GM 0.6.4 and it works fine. if you have got the latest GM version you could try to uninstalling it and installing the older one, and you could also try disabling the other scripts you have installed to see if that fixes the problem.
btw i noticed a bug in my last release, the bug is in the "Their Contacts" filter. if you selected it, it would usually cause the browser to freeze up for long periods of time. ive fixed this bug and released a new version.
UPDATE just noticed another bug, and have updated the script again, this bug might have been causing your problem centrifuga, try updating the script and see if that works.

Potential small bug: I accidentally added a tag "top'" (top and then a single quote), that apparently doesn't have any users associated with it. Since it's not plaintext, evidentally I can't delete it, or it didn't get added.
Can I edit that file in the filesystem somewhere? (Cookie, perhaps?). My programming skills are solid except in the javascript arena ... that, and I'm kinda slack :)

How about an untagged tag? I've just added some new contacts on another computer without this script, and it's no easy feat to find them in my list of contacts on the computer with the script. They would be my only untagged contacts however.
steeev, I'm loving this script, but I'm desperate for some way to synch the details that doesn't involve manually hacking the prefs file. I use 2 different computers at home, one linux, onr windows and I use another at work, all of which run this script. Updating two computers whenever I chagen the tags on one is a killer. Given that it's just a text string, there has to be some way of storing it online that can be retrieved from other places.
Profile page? Private images? I know you chose not to use del.icio.us, but if the string is stored somewhere on one external page, rather than one page for each contact, then there shouldn't be too much of a performance hit, just a load and synch the first time it's ran in a given session...

Hello!
The script doesn't entirely work for me. I have the latest version of FF and the recommended version of GM installed.
The links "+tag" are showing up and I can write tags, but they aren't saved (I think).
My pref.js file doesn't exist where steeev sayd (i.e. c:\documents and settings\[YOUR PC USERNAME]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles\your firefox profile name). I searched and found it at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile. I opened it in a text editor and found no such lines as "user_pref("[...]".
What can I do now? :)

petite corneille wrote: The script doesn't entirely work for me. Ive made a minor update to the script, which might possibly fix your problem. Ive also added a new filter "Photos they have commented on"
Also in lieu of an automatic script update check, which i will add in a later release, ive changed the version number of the script that gets displayed at the bottom of the filtered contact results into a link to the script on my server. So if you want to check if theres an update the lo-tech way, you can just click the link and compare the version numbers.

Strange... I'm having trouble with this new version too. Now when I enter the contacts page and click a tag, everything below shifts down enough to show the line "Contacts tagged with [...] rename tag", (with the right number of ppl with that tag) but it disappears and collapses back to where it was a second later, having never shown any of my tagged contacts.

Comments they have made on your photos
Comments you have made on their photos
it gave me comments from forever ago and only like ten or what ever... is that normal? also, it did not allow me to see the comments that person made on my photos nor did it show all the faves of mine they have, it only showed one (most recent)

Steeev, may I suggest a feature? I realize that on the ToDo list is, "ability to subscribe to a users usertags via flickrmail / rss feed"...
Since flickr feeds support the ability to query different users in the same feed, it would be very cool to have a link that creates a feed URL out of a tag set of contacts!

I use this script everyday and find it invaluable. But it appears to have stopped working and disappeared. It is enabled in Greasemonkey, all my other scripts work, but on the Contact's page I no longer see the tag groupings I created at the top and none of my contacts have the +tag or -tag option next to their names.
The only change I have made to my system is to download a new version of my firewall. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do short of reinstalling and if that works having to retag all my contacts? Which I will do if necessary just to get this wonderful feature back into operation.

@ Steeev... This script is invaluable to me. I am in awe and extremely thankful for all the effort you so generously devote to making my Flickr life easier. Thank You!
Unfortunately, I too can no longer see the tags and groupings I had for my contacts. In your comment immediately above " john w " you said "restore tags" was coming soon. Wondering about the status.
If the "restore tags" fix is not imminent I assume I should delete the script I have, download and install the new version and then re-do my contact tags.
But... before I do that, I thought I would check to see if you have an estimate of when you might find the time to dothe "restore tags" fix.
Many thanks, once again.

I would also like to add my thanks to you for this script - it has eased my frustration level greatly.
In my ideal world, two filters would be added:
1. Most recent photos tagged with.... [the current 'photos tagged with...' gives some images, but not the most recent, it seems]
2. Photos in the group... [meaning I would see photos from the contacts that I have tagged that are in a specific group].
Seriously - this is the best hack ever.

for the people having problems with losing all their tags, ive finally nailed that bug, the latest version can detect if the tags datastore has been corrupted and wont display, and will attempt to fix them automatically.
Ive also added functionality for backing up and restoring your tags, Ive added 4 new menu items, in the "Tools/Greasemonkey/Userscript Commands" or "Tools/Userscript Commands" menu (depending on what version of GM you are using):
1) You can backup your tags datastore to your flickrmail account
2) You can restore your tags datastore from your flickrmail account
3) You can display your raw tags datastore.
4) You can restore your datastore via direct input of the raw tags datastore code (you would need to copy and paste the datastore from the first menu item or from your flickrmail)
the backup and restore functionality will mean users who want to use the script on multiple computers, will be able to export their tags from one computer and import them on the other/s.
there is a little bit of a bug when restoring your tags after storing them in flickrmail, any usernames with "non standard" characters may get a bit mangled, though this shouldnt affect the majority of the scripts functions or usernames. though i will see if i can fix this.

Ive updated the script again, this time i added "Recent photos featuring this user" and "Interesting photos featuring this user" filters. These do a search for the following tags: "me,selfportrait, flickr:user=username" on the users photostream, and return either the most recent or most interesting matching photos depending on the filter you choose.
Added recent+interesting "Photos tagged with..." filters, which works similar to the previous addition, except with this one you can choose the tag/s you want to search for.
I also fixed the "testimonials they wrote" filter and the intermittent stream duplication bugs.

ive updated the script again, it now supports tagging with unicode characters, also when you click add tag, the dialog box, now shows a list of the current tags that user has. Also the buddymenus now work for usericons (sometimes..) they only seem to work when you select the "dont show any pictures" filter, and they also work on the "show this users contacts" filter. Thanks go to mortimer for helping out with the buddymenus code.
bug fixed: if you backed up your contacts to flickrmail and restored them the usernames with unicode characters in them would get mangled, this is now fixed.

i added a "contact details" filter, if the tagged user has added any of the following information to their profile, it gets displayed when you select the "contact details" filter: real name, home town, occupation, email address, Yahoo Messenger, AOL messenger, MSN Messenger, ICQ. The messenger details will also show an icon displaying whether that user is currently online or not.

Is it a way to tag all your contact at once - or do you have to tag each individually?
I would like to tag all of my contacts 'ALL' so I can use the filters on them.... it is a real pain to go trough all the contacts and add the 'ALL' tag to each individually....
It would also be nice to be able to use the filters on the 'untagged' contacts...

Just some request :
- It's possible to give more than one tag at each time ?
- Can you give a suggest list of our tag when we type the first letter of it ( like the Delicious fonction)?.
- it's a way to delete at this moment a previous tag?.
And at least, ;-), it's in your toDo List , to merge with the Flickr Fonctional Suite ?

I had this problem, and it was because two scripts were installed (some bugs in Greasemonkey...). I uninstalled one and reset all the tags, and it was fine.

Steeev,
Hate to keep bugging you but I seem to lose this script periodically. It happened again and I don't see duplicate versions. I uninstalled and then reinstalled and it is working again, but of course all my old tags are gone.
This time though I have them backed up in the Flickrmail Data Store, but when I restore using Tools/Greasemonkey nothing happens. I can look in my Flickr mail (and in my computer"s mail system) and see the email.
Is there some trick I'm missing in getting this to work.

Sometimes perseverance pays off. Restoring from the Flickr data store did not do anything, but when I copied the string in my flickrmail and then used the Restore tags via direct input and pasted the string into it, it worked like a charm and reestablished all my tags..

The script works fine for me, and it is well thought out. 2 suggestions for you to consider.
1/ auto tag all contacts when added with "all"
2/ can you provide an audit so that all contacts can be listed showing the tags assigned to each (if any).
You may have some suggestion making it unnecessary as I haven't been using it for long and there could be features not obvious to me.

Great script but I think I found a bug it looks like if a users name is more than one line long it won't let me add a tag (using +tag) for them... I tried every person on page 3 of my contacts, and anyone that has a name that breaks 1 line won't allow me to tag them.

There is a nice filter (Contacts you have in common). I would like to see a filter that lists all the contacts that a contact has but not that in common. Is it possible?

Anyone else having trouble getting this script to load suddenly? I've tried emptying out my cache and nothing - just perpetual loading pattern. It's been like that for the last couple of days (since the last Flickr reload).

Shame that the new GM update has made contacts organiser stop working.....this is such a hassle as CO is so useful to me that I wouldn't be without it!

arrrrrggg!! I love this script, but something has changed an not of my tags are loading. I have checked the prefs.js file and the tags are still there with all the right contacts. Somebody know how to fix this?

The Greasemonkey Security Update discussion has a workaround solution suggested by rgdaniel which involves reinstalling the previous Greasemonkey script addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/versions/748. Version 0.7.2007.
I had the same problem and going back to the prior version now has all my scripts restored and working - Contacts and Groups Organizer and Multi Group Sender as well.

I don't get it, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I've tried everything, disabling all of the other scripts, newer versions of GM, older versions, reloading cache, restarting computer.
The only one that shows up is the +tag option, but then it doesn't do anything after I add a tag.
:( bummer, as I was really looking forward to using this one :(

I'm using version 2 of Firefox and have installed the latest version of Greasemonkey. When I tried to install a new script, this does not appear in the script list. I am using an Italian version of Firefox. Please help

Does this script not work for MAC's?
I use a MacBook , the latest version of Firefox and I'm able to add tags, but do not see them or anything else at the top of the page like I'm supposed to...
Maybe I need to update GreaseMonkey?
