@mortimer? i couldnt actually get the group page enhancer script to work when i tried it. also i would rather keep this script separate, as it makes things simpler for me. i personally like the idea of unix shell commands, i.e having lots of small commands, which you can string together to do more complex functions.
@fgt this script is still working for me. you have probably installed a script that is clashing with my script, try disabling scripts you have installed after my script one by one till you find the right one. you could also try uninstalling and reinstalling my script, as the order the scripts are installed in might affect whether they clash or not.

ok, ive added a basic group tagging function to the script, which lets you add tags to your groups, and then you can list all groups under each tag. You cant delete tags yet, as i havent written that bit of the code yet hehe, more to come...

Great script steeve! Especially for tagging. Way to go! Just some subjective feedback:
About 1) An Easier way to quit groups
It would be great to also add a check-box-option for removing your pics from the group pool you are quitting, like the function in your 'Group pool warn and delete' script, but without the PM.
Double-clicking the black dot is not so evident. I think it would be more user friendly to add a 'quit' link, like the 'tag' link, both with tool-tips of course. Loose the '+' and add blue color on the link.
About 3) Tag your groups
When displaying the 'Groups tagged with Foo' list, it would be great to also display a 'Groups not tagged with Foo' list. It would make it easier to tag the remaining items. (This would also be a great fix for the photo Organizer).
The 'Groups list sorter' script also works very well, thank you! I think it would be 'wise' to incorporate it in this script and also have it sort groups disregarding the 'the' and any non-alphanumericals in the beginning of many group names.
Cheers!

*saipal wrote: It would be great to also add a check-box-option for removing your pics hmm could add it, i guess, not gonna b too high a priority tho.Double-clicking the black dot is not so evident. yeah i know, i was thinking of changing it, not least because i accidentally quit from a group that i created and was an administrator in, due to this script LOL the reason it happened, is its not just the black dot that can be clicked to quit, its the whole LI tag, too big a target, that can accidentally be hit, as well as not being evident.Loose the '+' and add blue color on the link. the +tag was originally blue, but i felt it didnt look right as it was drawing attention away from the group names, i agree tho that the current colour is a bit too pale, i will change it.The 'Groups list sorter' script also works very well, thank you! I think it would be 'wise' to incorporate it in this script and also have it sort groups disregarding the 'the' and any non-alphanumericals in the beginning of many group names. glad u like the sorter script. btw it already does disregard most non alphanumericals at the start of the name. i dont have many groups with "the" at the start so its not a problem for me. i was already thinking of merging the sorter script and the organiser script, thanks for your feedback .

its not a bug, its designed not to refresh the page after quitting a group, refreshing the page each time would just slow things down.

this is a pretty wonderful script. It's probably a bad Idea to suggest this... but what if it was integrated with the "multi-group sender" script. Could send to relevant groups based on custom group-tags with a single click.
Multi-group sender already has ability to save selections as a concept... but the tags method seems so much more "flickr-centric".
I've been wanting to tag groups forever! Thank you.

ok try this. disable all other gm scripts, then try it. as it could be another script clashing with this one. if it still doesnt work let me know your Browser version, GM version and what JS errors you are getting. i havent tested any of my scripts with the latest version of GM or FF, so theres no guarantee they will work with them. they are however known to at least work with FF 1.5.02 + GM 0.6.4

has anyone else tried this script with FF1.5.06 + GM0.6.5 ?
btw ive updated the script so it now works on the Organize page too, it doesnt have the +/- tag bit yet, but that will be in the next release. You may need to uninstall the old version and then install this version to get it to work.
Another thing to note is that the new version stores the tags slightly differently to older versions of the script in order to work with the Organize page, so groups tagged with script versions v0.52 and below might not show up on the Organize page when their tag is clicked, though they will still work on the groups list page.

Hi, Steeev... the quit code has a little bug in it. If there are no tags on a group, you can't quit the group using the organizer. On (about) line 94, the if (!tag)
return;
really needs to be
if (tag) {
... through //return false;..
}
if you see what I mean: instead of returning if there are no tags, you should be skipping the tag code and going down to do the quite code.
Thanks for this script - it's wonderful!

One thing missing that would be useful is to list the tags associated with each group, that way we could easily see what group is missing from which tag.
ie
Flickr Hacks (2,562 members) quit +tag [Flickr, Tools]

Oh, this is excellent, steeev, I was looking for a tool to quit multiple groups and bumped into your script: a blessing.
The quit/tag links work properly here but—unless I'm missing something—I don't see any of the other links (sort/fetch all/open all/close all). I'm running FF 2.0.0.1 on Mac OS X with the latest version of the script (just downloaded).
Keep up the good work!
PS I've dropped you a line via the contact form on your website re: group statistics.

i woke up this morning with the dreaded task of trying to scale back on the number of groups im in. came here and found this script and was able to do what would probably have taken hours to maybe 20 minutes. went from 425 groups to 130. :)
only issues...when you quit a group this way, it leaves all of your images in the pool right? i know when you quit the conventional way, it prompts you to keep your images or delete them from the pool. that would be a cool feature to consider.
also i tried the tagging feature which is really cool. only suggestion i have there would be (and i dont even know if this is possible) to remove the group name from the master list once it's been tagged. or better yet have an option to view untagged groups. with so many groups, i keep tagging the same group over and over because it doesnt tell you(when you are looking at the master list) which group has been tagged.
no biggie though. just some ideas.

This is so much fun!
What a FANTASY come TRUE!
Possible future enhancement: Sort the tags list. As of now, it appears in the order that I entered the tags. Is it possible to SORT them?, by the way, in your example, they are sorted, but mine aren't. Thanks!
Thanks, Steeev.

Steeev, that's a nice script you've got there. I finally figured out how to work it after scratching my head for about an hour trying to figure out why the +tag and quit links weren't appearing on the groups organizer page, which is where I thought they would be. Eventually I figured out that these links are on the "Your groups" page. Maybe it would be a good idea to write up a faq for newbies on how to run the script so they can get up and running more quickly.
I have a suggestion you might want to consider for future versions. Right now the way the script works, a person has to go through each group one by one on the group list in order to tag them. That can be quite slow and cumbersome for people who have hundreds of groups to tag. A much faster interface would be something akin to what is currently being implemented in the latest release of Adobe Bridge (it's part of the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Beta which can be downloaded for free). What Bridge does is, it has a separate pane that you set up the tags on beforehand, then you can click on either individual photos or a whole group of photos and then with a single click of the tag on the pane you can tag that entire group of photos. So using this idea it would be nice to tag several groups with a tag just by clicking say, a checkbox next to each group, then a single press of the tag will tag all of the groups that are checked. So let's say I had 30 groups dealing with Black & White, then I could just click the checkbox next to each of those groups then with a single click of a "b&w" tag I would be able to tag all 30, instead of clicking on a +tag link 30 times and having to retype "b&w" inside a dialog box 30 times.
But anyway, thanks for the tag functionality in this organiser, it's something which has made my life soooo much easier here on flickr. :) Keep up the great work!

Hi Steeev,
I use several of your GM scripts and have found that my Flickr experience has become greatly enriched. I seem to have made a mistake in tagging a group with "invited images only" (complete with quotes). The tag will not apply and I can find no way to rename or remove the tag. Can you help?

fallenwattle, you need to uninstall the script, and also tick the box saying remove associated preferences, this will remove all your tags, including the one with quotes. then reinstall the script. the next version wont have this bug.
olesam, im working on a way to export and import tags, should be ready in a week or so i think, as i only use the script on a single computer, this option isnt a high priority for me.

ok, ive finished a new version of the script, you can get it from the usual places.
* added backup and restore your tags functionality via the firefox/tools/[Greasemonkey]/User script commands/ menu. will be particularly useful for people using multiple computers.
* added an option to "remove all your photos - when quitting groups"
* added the ability to use unicode characters in your group tags
* fixed some more bugs including the one that caused the datastore to get totally corrupted
* disallowed the use of quotes, single or double, in tags
if anyone is still having problems with quotes in their tags, you can now, rather than uninstalling and starting all over again, fix the "stuck tag" manually. heres the steps.
1) select the "tools/[greasemonkey]/userscript commands/Flickr groups organiser: display datastore" menu item
2) Ctrl-A then Ctrl-C to copy the datastore then paste it into a text editor, and find the tag with the quotes in it and remove the quotes - but be careful not to remove more quotes than necessary, or you will corrupt the datastore.
3) Copy the fixed datastore, then select the "tools/[greasemonkey]/userscript commands/Flickr groups organiser: restore datastore by direct input" menu item
4) paste the fixed datastore into the text box and if youve edited it correctly, your datastore should now be fixed.

ive added a basic script usage section to the description above, i wonder if that will solve your problem, here it is:
Script Usage
-----------------
Once the script is installed, go to your group list page, and you will see 2 new links beside each group name, "quit" and "+tag". Clicking quit will let you quit the group directly from that page, clicking "+tag" will let you tag that group. To remove a tag simply click the tag you want to remove, the list of groups tagged with that tag will then be displayed, to remove that tag from a group, just click the "-tag" link next to the group name in the list.

I'm using Opera 9.21 (it works faster on my computer than Firefox).
Opera doesn't seem to be executing the script. Has anyone had any luck using it as a user script in Opera?

With Firefox 2.0.0.4 it works well in "my groups" but it's doing nothing in "Organize". Any help appreciated!

@-SpH- you could change the default sort type to alpha, by making the following change to the script.
insert this line of code :
unsafeWindow.sortgroups("Alpha");
just before the following line
if (PUT_ADMIN_GROUPS_IN_RIGHT_COLUMN) {
@mexindian + @medioman ive tested the script in firefox 2.0.0.4 and it works fine for me. when you click a tag on the organize page, it takes time to collate all the groups from the tagged list, and this amount of time increases depending on the number of groups listed under that tag and also the size of your group list, so it may just be a case of you needing to wait a bit longer after clicking a tag, to see the list of tagged groups.

Well, sadly it's not working for me in "Organize" mode either. I am having exactly the same problems as mexindian and medioman. Very sad indeed, as your script looks very promising. Any help you could offer?
Thanks for your great scripts anyway!

Besides the photos I would live to be able to see recent threads by tags if that is possible. Great script thanks for all the work you have put into it.

steeev, this is a great script, and it is working well for me.
I did notice one irritating bug if you quit a group.
When you try to list a tag with that group, it will give an error message, then delete every entry for that tag until it gets to the offending group. Can you duplicate this error, or is my database just screwed up?
(I luckily did not have to rebuild my database when I upgraded the script.)
Thanks for all your great work.

HELP! Can someone please help me with steeev's greasemonkey scripts???
These scripts are awesome -- I had several installed and they were all functional one day, but gone the next. (i.e., steev's group organizer, group tracker and contact organizer).
I put a lot of time into tagging my groups and contacts. For a reason unknown or understood by me, everything is gone even though these scripts still show up under the greasemonkey tools.
For several days I tried to get them back -- Finally I uninstalled each one and then re-installed them. Still nothing!?
How can I get these great tools to work properly??

Yep! It's me again. Still no luck with re-installing the scripts that were working perfectly at one point.
I did get a message from someone stating that there may be a problem with the scripts running on Firefox's latest version.(?) Does anyone know anything about this?? Any suggestions for how I can get the scripts to work again???
ANY help would be most appreciated . . . :-)

Hi - just trying out this script. I have the same problem as mexindian and medioman I think - it's not doing anything on my organize page, no matter how long I wait. The tags are there but clicking on them does nothing.
It seems to be working fine on the groups page though, and is very useful - thank you for it!
Using:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071127 Firefox/2.0.0.11 - Build ID: 2007112718
And many extensions...

Would be nice if someone resolves a problem to say how you did so? Other's may have the same problem.. :(
I don't use this script so I'm not sure what it does. What ver. of the script are you using?
All I can say is to make sure to install Steeev's scripts from his site. Those are the most recent scripts.
Also consider sending these kind folks a little $ donation some time. They have made Flickr so much better. Let's support them.

It'd be nice a link to groups that has been tagged. Sometimes I can't add tags when I join to a group (for example if I'm not in my computer), and are harder to find later when you belong to many groups.
Thanks for the script, I found it very useful!.

Hi, Steeev, you have made a useful script. Thank you!
But: It doesn't work in organize-groups. Tags are shown, but nothing happens, when I click on them. I tried all the suggestions you've given here. I'm using firefox 2.0.0.11
Can you help?

Steeev,
After installing the new version of Greasemonkey 0.7.20080121.0,, I find that the Groups Organizer, the Contacts Organizer and the Multi-Group Sender scripts don't work. For the first two, I see my tags but clicking on them does nothing. For the latter, my existing group choices don/t appear although when I look for them in about:config they are there. I am using Vista Ultimate as the OS.
Have you come across this as a problem? Has anyone else experienced this? The 0.7.2007 version worked correctly.
Thanks, John

I noticed that the Groups Organizer and the Contacts Organizer don't work for me either after installing the new GM version, whereas the Multi group sender script works fine.
