About PROTEST THE NEW COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
We, The People, are protesting the wording of the new Community Guidelines.
In particular, the clause which prohibits "ranting" and the warning not to "bore" people.
The Guidelines read:
"Don’t vent your frustrations, rant, or bore the brains out of other members.
Flickr is not a venue for you to harass, abuse, impersonate, or intimidate others. If we receive a valid complaint about your conduct, we’ll send you a warning or terminate your account."
We feel that the policy should reflect existing laws and protections regarding hate speech, cyber-stalking, luring, threats, and libel.
Expressing impassioned opinions using elaborate language -- or conversely, expressing dull opinions using flat and uninspiring language -- should not be equated with criminal harassment.
We oppose policies of political correctness that discourage dissenting viewpoints and dilute the energy and friction of lively debate.
We are adults. We are paying members. We have access to redress under the law. We have the option to block members who disturb us or resign from forums which offend us.
We do not require that our interactions be supervised. We do not require instructions on how to speak or what to speak about.
We resent corporate meddling with our freedom of expression and our intellectual integrity.
This policy is the new NIPSA-- censoring our words and the way that we use them.
