A little bit of background from their Flickr profile:
Cornell University Library, one of the leading academic research libraries in the United States, is part of the academic information infrastructure at Cornell University. At the heart of our mission is a commitment to supporting teaching, research, outreach, and learning.
Cornell University is an Ivy League university located in Ithaca, New York, founded in 1865 as a co-educational, non-sectarian institution that accepted all races. One of the first university libraries to allow undergraduates to borrow books, the Commons seems a logical extension!
