My latest set of Connemara pics is here. It includes views of Leenane taken in the same spot as that in the LOC picture titled "Killary Bay":

That flat area is actually private property. To the right, out of frame are stairs that go up to O'Brien's Tower, and that's public. There's just a fence and sign keeping the public off the flat area, and for the most part it seemed that people respected it. I believe it was a farm.

Thank you everyone!! It's wonderful to see your closeups and the same sites in different seasons as well as the similar perspectives 110 years later. I'm definitely adding the rope bridge to my travel wish list :-)

The Library's master blogger, Matt Raymond, sends you a collective shout out here, blogs.loc.gov/loc/2010/03/photo-go-bragh/

Whatsthatpicture:
I wish we had the resources to geotag these photos, too. For now, we're concentrating on preparing new pictures to add to Flickr. Relying on Flickr members for the machine tags with geo info. As an example, see www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/4211207938/

Helena, thanks for the info about using the machine tags to help ID geo location. That's pretty cool, and certainly something we can pass along to members when we promote your stuff. :)
