Parading Across the Commons!

I love a parade,the tramping of feet,
I love every beat I hear of a drum.
I love a parade, when I hear a band
I just want to stand and cheer as they come.

- Arden Ohman Orchestra

There's something about parades. We parade to celebrate and to mourn, to protest and to congratulate. We flock to the streets to publicly express some communal emotion: joy or sorrow or gratitude or anger.

Does a demonstration count as a parade?

The LOC upped some great women's suffrage march photos today:

Wow, that's some great stuff you found out about the sacred car. Thanks for digging it up!

Parading or marching for rights and demonstrations are very much important parades, and there's a lot of great images in the LoC's collection. I think parades fascinate me since they seem fairly unique to us humans. Animals will parade out to migrate, find food, or mate, but we seem to take to the streets for a variety of occasions. :)

@zyrcster: That was a rare case of me going on knowledge, actually! I've had the good fortune to help carry a "sacred car" around a neighborhood.

Someone's gotta have a Disneyland parade, right?!? Maybe once we get some more institutions in The Commons. Recently I've been amazed to find how many archives, museums, libraries etc are posting to regular accounts.
