22 Dec 08 - if you have joined this group, and want to vote on the competing images then you have to join vi.sualize.us (this is not because i want to promote vi.sualize.us but because vi.sualize.us will let us vote on the competing images.)

because i want this competition to work right from the start i am going to wait until there are over 100 members before the first competition, so invite all your artist friends!!

About flickr art competition

the main purpose of this group is to give more exposure to artists on flickr though a weekly competition in which the participants are committed to 'faving' the winning image all at the same time, thus boosting it onto the explore page.

when i say 'art' it should be understood that i mean everything except 'pure' photography ie. graphic design, paintings, sketches, grafitti, photos of sculptures etc.. not that i don't consider 'pure' photography to be an art form, its just that everything else seems to get buried here on flickr, and i find that unfortunate.

the way the competition will work is very simple;

1. an artist enters an image in the competition by tagging it with a certain tag, for example 'flickr_art_competition_jan_09', and 'votes' on the other images tagged with the same tag by faving them. (this first part will run on vi.sualize.us not on flickr)

2. at the end of the week, the artist who's image has been 'favorited' most uploads it to flickr.

3. all competitors go and fav the winning image that has just been uploaded to flickr, regardless if they like it or not.

4. art appears on the flickr explore page.
