hi,
I have ambivalent feelings about it:
Of course I want flexplore to get well known, but on the other hand it can only take *so many* users at once.
If you want to spread the word, it's great, but please just don't do it in too many places at the same time.
Normally users will flock to the place once its posted somewhere and generate a spike that flattens after 1 or 2 days, leaving only the ones behind who really like it.
I'd prefer lots of little spikes instead of one big spike.

OK - thanks for that - will hold off spreading the word for a week or two ;)

no, I didn't mean that. ;-)
Just don't do it in all places at the same time. But in the end, I couldn't prevent it anyway. Other people wouldn't ask first.
So just do as you feel, but keep in mind: Too much traffic at the same time could kill it. So be gentle ;-)

I optimized the application a bit for speed. I think you could give it a try, and tell people about it.
I will have a free week next week, so I'd have time to jump in if something breaks, just in case...

I did post a link to this group in another group that just started:
www.flickr.com/groups/freecomments/
it seems to have some of the same goals as flexplore users. The group idea is focused on finding new photostreams.

I think the best way for anything to grow is to let it grow in an organic sort of way. You don't want a big hit of publicity from a news story in Cnet for example.
I realize that some people like to rush out and spread the word to their favorite groups with thousands of members. Other people like to create "elite" groups and not let anyone in (sometimes these are the same people).
My approach to growth is to keep my eyes open for meaningful connections.

right. my site wouldn't be able to handle the load of many hundred people trying it at the same time.
most of them wouldn't come back anyway, because it only appeals to a certain group of flickr users.
so i post it only from time to time in certain places.
e.g.: yesterday i invited all my contacts to this group, then there was a rush, and now it settled down.
i like the feedback, and i like to have people using it, but i don't make any money from hits, so i'm not too keen on a "huge" userbase. a "large" is good enough.

I've mentioned it a couple of times in various groups, but I haven't wanted to cause a spike that will cripple it - I've been gentle :D
The frustrating thing is that I love it so much and I want the whole world to know about it! :D

no problem, just go ahead, a mention here and there won't have a too large impact.

Can you make a graphic like the ones they use in Utata or other groups?
I'm referring to the kind of graphic/logo that we can put on our profiles (not comment graphics). I put the flexpore link in my profile so that when I fave a photo I find I know the photographer will often investigate the profiles of people who fave his or her photo. A profile graphic would be nice.

I'm not a graphic designer, but if someone wants to design a logo for flexplore (and I like it), I'd be happy to use it on the page and elsewhere.
