About Flathead National Forest

This group is for sharing photos taken on the Flathead National Forest.

About the Forest:
Flathead National Forest is a U.S. National Forest located along the west side of the continental divide from the U.S.-Canadian border south approximately 120 miles. The 2.3 million acre Flathead National Forest is built from block fault mountain ranges sculpted by glaciers, and covered with a rich, thick forest. By providing abundant recreation and a wealth of natural resources, the Flathead is a perfect place to relax and enjoy your National Forests.

Congress has designated over one million acres of the Flathead National Forest as part of the National Wilderness Preservation System: The Bob Marshall, Great Bear, and Mission Mountains Wildernesses comprise approximately 46 percent of the Forest's total land base. Other designated special management areas are the Flathead Wild and Scenic River, Jewel Basin Hiking Area, and Coram Experimental Forest.

The Flathead National Forest headquarters is located in Kalispell, with ranger district offices in Bigfork, Kalispell, and Hungry Horse.
