About flag abuse
Welcome. This group is not about abusing the American flag or the flag of any other nation. It is about the disrespect of the flags of nations.
It's about the commercialization of the image, of the icon, of the flag.
It used to be that the flag represented the country. Something sacred about the country we (or others) live in. It wasn`t supposed to touch the ground. It was supposed to be folded properly and taken down at night and handled with the honor it deserved. Now, it`s underwear, refrigerator magnets, cakes, and - if you walk along the highways - you`ll see flag trash on the ground.
McDonalds flys the flag 24 hours a day because (they say) they`re being patriotic. The antennas of cars sport faded and tattered little flags. People wave flags, magnets and bumperstickers in your face that were manufactured in china. It`s disenheartening. Either we respect it, or not. So here we're showing off flag abuse in all its ugliness - that American flags with Harley Davidsons or trout on the isn`t appropriate somehow. It is an attempt to establish a visual dialog of abuse, so that people either respect it or start to treat it like a company logo.
Or perhaps do something about it.
