A group for those who engage in fine art portrature in whatever medium - painting, drawing, collage, digital, photographic, sculptural, conceptual, etc.

A portrait is defined as "a painting (portrait painting), photograph (portrait photography), or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. For this reason, in photography a portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position." From: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portrait

This group takes that to be the minimum definition and also allows full body portraits. Portraits of self and others are equally acceptable, as are group portraits and diptych/triptych formats etc.

As a result of this definition family and friends snapshots, simple poses and glamor photographic portraits, cute children, wedding photograpic works, amimals etc are not suitable for this group and will be removed to keep the group true to its title and aims. There are many other portrait groups on flickr catering for this kind of portrait most especially www.flickr.com/groups/theportraitgroup/
