About Film Noir Scenes
This group is about that amorphous movie genre/style called film noir. The intent here is to post stills, captures from films noirs. No limitations on how many can be added to this pool...just film noir.
When adding to the pool, please title the capture with the name of the film, the director and the year of release. For example: The Maltese Falcon (Huston, 1941). Likewise, please tag your stills appropriately with title, director name (yes, we are auteur-centric) and any other information you might deem important.
Part of the fun though is "what is film noir?" For purposes of this pool, we'll take as gospel the canon of three hundred or so movies that are discussed in the main "Films" section of Alain Silver and Elizabeth Ward's Film Noir: An Encyclopedic Reference to the American Style (3d ed.). Those movies will get a free ride here and stills from them can be posted to your heart's content. For this purpose also, the fifty or so movies listed in the "Additional Films From the Classic Period" section of the same book will also be treated the same way.
If you don't have the book, no big deal. For the most part, all those movies you more often than not associate with film noir are included. And if you really want to know what they are, just message the Administrator and I can get the list to you.
For those movies not in Silver and Ward's "canon," they'll be withdrawn from the pool and a discussion thread will be opened. We can hash out there why it should or shouldn't be admitted to the pool...and after some discussion the contributors can decide to include it or keep it out.
And if it's all too much work, no biggie...we can just kill this pool.
It's only Flickr.
