There have been many cats in my quarter-century here: (In chronolocal order, according to arrival) Sugar, Moochie, Bobby, a grey kitty, Casey, Tiger, Patches, Smokey, Taylor, Cosmo, Maddie, Marmalade, Whiskers, Tananda (Tandy), Sandy, Lucky, Sooty, Sammie, Baby Kitty (#1), Dusty (aka Baby Kitty (#2)). The ones in bold are sill alive and well. Sandy is my all-time favorite cat: orange, happy, meows a lot, has a two-cyclinder purr (purrs on the in- and out-take), and is a lover kitty. It seems we adopted about 1/3 of the cats on the list, and the rest adopted us!

Frank
Mama Cat
Little Grey Tom
Old Grey Tom
Scruffy Cat
Piggy (neighbour's big fat friendly pig of a cat)
Black Devil Spawn Evil Piece of Sh*t Nasty Cat (the nastiest most vile cat I've ever had the misfortune to meet. It's someone's pet but comes over to eat the ferals' food, fight with my cats through the window and it hisses and lunges at me when I go out to chase it away. Nasty nasty thing)

The way I came to my kitty was pure fate (it's a long story). At the time I was with my mother, who believes that her grandfather Max watches over her as her guardian angel. So I named my cat "Max" in his honor. He's a terrific little kitty.

My current evil housemate is Silly Kitty. We tried to name her Super Kitty (for the shield on her chest) and Lois and any number of other names, but she only responded to Silly Kitty. We think it's because the d*g's name is Silly Girl and SK wanted to lullus iinto a false sense of security.
My all time favorite cat name belonged to my brother's orange tabby ... Spot ... because it's a d*g's name and he didn't have any!

our first baby was adopted last Christmas and as soon as we picked her up, we knew what to call her.
GSXR, pronounced "Jigg-zerrr", because she purred like her daddy's motocycle.
our next baby was adopted last June. We didn't name him after the first night he spent with us. Because he kept biting us under our covers, we caLLed him KOGA, which means steel fang in Japanese.

My husband named the first cat we got Matisse because she likes to play with paper. We have since acquired a stray. Staying with the artisit theme, and because he is an older gentleman with lots of style, I named him FIndley. After the author Timothy Findley.

I was working for a liquor company when we got our cat. My husband and I couldn't think of anything "cool" to name the cat. So, we decided that if "the cat" was a male we'd name him Hennessy which was my husbands choice. If "the cat" was a female, we'd name her Chardonnay which was my choice.
I won. :) "The cat" was named Chardonnay. That was 13 years ago. And like a fine (albeit red) wine, she's aged perfectly!

Great thread!!!
Shelly (RIP) was an unimaginatively named tortoiseshell who moved in from 2 doors away when her owners started to argue and split up.
Dusty (RIP) again, a no brainer on the name front, we got from a local rescue and she was a diluted tortie.
Harry is an Epileptic and autistic Ginger Tom who I aquired whilst working at my local vets. He was brought in as a kitten. He had a hump back as a birth defect - because of this his owners broke 2 of his legs and hit him over the head to try and kill him. It didnt work. Someone found him and brought him in. We fixed him up but didnt expect him to live much past a year....he is now 12 years old!! and loving life. You can see him in my Dad's photostream Ches1.
Tilly is next doors cat. She comes in at 7am every day and doesnt go home until 10pm at night. She is Harry's friend and they love to play together.

I notice there are a couple of Matisses. I too had a Matisse but soon after moving to Spain he made it clear he wanted to move out of our town house. His opportunity came when a friend who lives in a tiny mountainside village came to visit - he left with him and his dog and lives with them now, very happily.

hi, i love this thread. Having had cats from 2 years of age when I dragged home the first stray we've had:
Dodo (because he was nearly extinct, long story);
Smoky, my sister is given to stating the obvious;
Tigger(Tiggy),like Tigger she bounced and could get up a tree but couldn't get back down;
Midget, another of my sister's namings;
Caesar, because he invaded other people's territory and then started a war;
Smutty;
Fuzzball, when we found him as a kitten all you could see was a ball of fur.
Smokey 11, now my sister wasn't just obvious but also repetetive.
Our current cats are:
Bouncer (because he is big, beefy and rather thick) and
Milo (because he likes to wrestle with everyone)
These two are also known as "Ying and Yang" , "Dumb and dumber", the "dynamic duet" etc. They're a matched set.

Basil, because his tail is like Basil Brush's when he runs but get this his show name is "Chadwickl Autumn Sun" what a mouthful.

Missy Cat, the little princess (deceased) who had a short but malevolent reign of terror over the household. Her show name was "Prettyvangood Kiwi Miss", you can't beat show names for imagination.

Alllain Cream Mischief, who rapidly became Chief;

and the last addition, but not the least:
Smokey 111, did I mention that my sister is obvious and repetetive.

They both live in France with my mother atm, who is busy raising her own Cat Army - over Christmas it totalled nine:

I called it Vader (i am a Star Wars freak ;)
Whenever he does something bad (crush something, bite me...) he gets a "Darksidepoint" and whenever he does something good (kisses me when i am sad...) he gets a "Lightsidepoint".
On a scale (from -10 for dark to +10 for light) i save everything he does and so he gets good (Master) bad (Darth), at end of the month i print it and stick at the cat toilet...
Whenever this happens he looks at the sheet and smiles at me...
Today he has 7 Darksidepoints...

We name our cats and then generally start calling them something else.
For example my cat Booda, started out as Tigg (what she is still known as to the vet) but I started calling her Tigg-a-boo which morphed in to Booda.
I do this to my mom's cats too, Gypsy is Whipper (Snapper) and Sirius is Punky mainly because he is a punk always getting in to stuff he is not suppose to.

2. Pruttel. Silly name, but it suits her because she purrs really loudly! Also known as: Mousel, Pruttelaar, Pruttelbeest.
3. Kedi. Means 'cat' in Turkey where she came from. Als known as caddilac, kedibeest, mannetje, mainzelmänchen, kedisnack, puupke, kedigek etc etc.

I've only ever lived with three kitties.
One was (now since passed on...*sniff*) named Cody. My hubby had Cody for ages and Cody was the first kitty to make me like kitty cats because he was so friendly and would crawl up on my chest and nuzzle his head under my chin. Cody was named after the dog Odie in the Garfield comic strips. I'm still not sure how that happened but that's what hubby says.
My first cat Sweetie (aka Miss Sweetie Pie) got her name because I was calling her "sweetie" until I could think of a name for her. *laugh*
I never did think of another name and "Sweetie" just stuck.
My second kitty is named Rocky. He was an impulse buy at a pet store. He was the only white kitten in a cage full of black and multi coloreds. When I picked him up he hugged me. How could I not take him home? Long story short I met a little boy who was staying with some people my parents knew and I showed him my new pet. I asked him "What should I name him?" and he said "ROCKY!" and it just stuck. He also goes by "Rocky Fella" and "Rockafeller".

Mufassa... formerly known as orange kitty
Zoe...after the president's daughter on the West Wing
Bazil aka Baz the spaz, numnut, my precious, alarm clock, supafreak
Kitty: This one deserves an explanation for the lack of creativity. When we first adopted Kitty her name was Smokey, which was our next door neighbor's cat's name so in order to avoid confusion we named "him" (gender defined by previous owners) Humphrey. We took "Humphrey" to get neutered and were promptly told that that was not possible because he was a she. So we named her Daisy and realized that the frequently runaway neighborhood dog was named Daisy. She always came to Kitty, and thus this is what she has been called since.

Lex Luthor.... I was a big Lois & Clark fan back in the day, but more to the point, a Lex Luthor fan from that show in particular. When I found Lex, he had rich-looking, American Standard marks with really dark "eyeliner" that reminded me of Lex's gorgeous dark hair before it all fell out. He also had that well-to-do charm and, as all cats do, the potential for taking over the world with his evil.
I also named my parents' two black cats, Beau and Bella.

I'm living with ten cats atm, and these are their names:
Colin "Colleen" vom Alemannenweg: A twelve years old ruddy Somali cat, she's the eldest of my cats family. She ended up with that boys name, as I told her breeder by phone, I wanted her to be named Colleen - but the breeder, who doesn't speak English, got it wrong and had her registered as Colin, not noticing that this is a boys name *sigh*
Her sister Saskia, named after the painter Rembrandts wife, passed away two years ago.
Alanis and Biddy Mulligan are Colleens daughters, then there's Erad-Nair, Saskias grandson and Dusty Springfield, her granddaughter, Delia vom Alemannenweg and her son General Lee, aka "Diesel" because of the deep growling sounds he makes when purring, Exodon vom Klosterfeld (I have no idea why his breeder named him that weird...) whom I nicknamed "Sushi" because he's extremely fond of sushi and even tries to steal the bite from my mouth *lol*...Quiomme's Enigma is an Abyssinian lady and my household cat is named Jennyanydots after the T.S.Elliots poem, because she looks just like the cat in the poem. Then, last but not least, there's Bärchen, a ferocious black tomcat, who lives in my garden and only drops by now and then to pick up some food...

Hi Everyone. I'm daunted by all of these fabulous names...
My husband and I have three cats.
Stella is the female intent on world domination. She is also known as Stella-Stel, Bella Stella and Stella-by-Starlight.
We have two male cats who aren't very bright. Stella has recruited them haplessly to do her dark bidding:
Monty, also known as Montador, Montaque and Ricardo Monty-bon.
Lucius (the white devil), also known as Spoosh, the Smoosh, Scaramoush, Ranoosh, Mooshy and "The smooshiest cat I know"
We're happy to be a part of the group...

I'm new her but I'll see how many of my Masters I can remember there have been so very many.
As a small child I was owned by
Tomisina, Blackie, GoldyMorris, Snowball, Patches and any number of others who hung around short term because we put out food.
As I grew older we were adopted by Metoo, T.T., Friday, Fisher, Velcro, Herby, Kalen, Tangerine and Harley.
Just after I reached adulthood (turned 18) I was entrusted with the care of anothers Master named Tasha for 2 weeks that turned into 19 years.
Tasha was 1 to 2 years old when I got her and passed 2 months ago she was my very dear friend for 19 years and I miss her every day.
During her time with me we also had Olivia aka Beeper and Tikki.
And we have just adopted Dingus.

Hi,
I have 10 cats. But I live in the country so it's not so bad.......thank God for Aldi cat food!!
My first cat was Mew, but that changed to Mama Mew when she had her babies. She died in a fatal RTA last year.
I now have Runty Roo, The Cat with No Name, Big Dad, Fi, Moomin, Fatty, and Tricky (the biggest beeatch ever - she rules my house and all the others are scared of her).
Up until last month we had Bug (who was an absolute sweetheart) but she was killed on the road outside my house too.
And we have 3 new editions - Moomins babies: Momo, Bolo and Tiger
