DONE!!

A super simple block for April.

Cut 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangles, one of pink or orange and one of a low volume type of fabric. Sew together for a 6 1/2" square block.

NOTE: If you feel like your seam allowances are not coming out 1/4", then you can cut the blocks a little bit bigger and I will cut them down.

Make 8 blocks. Which is the equivalent of two 12 1/2" blocks.

Don't sew the 6 1/2" blocks together so that I can spread out the various colors.

Here is some more inspiration of the bright with low volume idea. Just use pinks & oranges as the bright colors.

Thanks!

Fun. Love the low volume mixed with the brights!
Does this 'pattern' have a name?
shaggy stone [deleted] 6 years ago
Well, the 6 1/2" blocks are a type of rail fence and the 4 make a modified pinwheel... :) I don't know if it has an official name. I guess I would call the whole quilt when it is done a pinwheel quilt, but not in the traditional triangle sense.

I made one like this YEARS ago, and I *think* they called it a whirligig?? I don't know. :-) It'll look great, though!

Cool! So can the low volume fabrics be prints or solids?
shaggy stone [deleted] 6 years ago
Oh yeah, whirligig. That sounds about right.

Yes, prints or solids for the low volume half. Thanks!

Looks great Anita! Can't wait to use some of my large prints that I've been clueless to put to use:o)

Fun, easy and cute! Loving the pinks and oranges.

Shoot! I knew I was forgetting something! I was in a new fabric shop today and couldn't think of a THING I needed to buy! Except...low volume prints...hmph. Guess I'll need to go back. ;o)

looks like fun!

a couple of questions as i go through my stash...do the pinks and oranges need to be bright? or just any shade of pink and orange? also, can they be solids, or prints only?

I got my blocks sent off to you today!

Oh shoot, wish I'd seen this sooner, I could have thrown some in the box I sent you! I got a ton of FQs of some great low volume Dear Stella fabric from Elizabeth Hartman. I used some of them in my blocks

The pinks & oranges can be variety of shades & hues. I would say, maybe not pastel or really light ones. They need to have some contrast to the light/low volume half. And on the other end of the spectrum, not super dark either. Generally, medium value fabrics. But that medium range can be rather large. By all means, use what you have. They can be solids or prints. I can mix them all up when I get all of the blocks together.

I agree! These quick and easy blocks were awesome, came at a really busy time so - much appreciated :)

That's one thing I am really loving about this circle. We all seem to understand that simple blocks make simple quilts. And simple quilts are simply BEAUTIFUL!!!! There is no need to ask us busy, busy women to make complicated blocks!! We are making stunning quilts that will bless the socks off of these girls, and none of us had a nervous break down getting there!! :-)

You're the best!!!!!!

Katherine, I still haven't received yours. I noticed that you posted 2 weeks ago that they were going out. Crossing my fingers that they aren't lost in the mail!! It would be a shame to lose them!
shaggy stone [deleted] 5 years ago
Katherine, your blocks arrived today. Yay!! And thank you!!
shaggy stone [deleted] 5 years ago
I threw all the blocks up on my design wall last night. They are SO fun!! Thank you ladies! I can't wait to get this one quilted.
shaggy stone [deleted] 5 years ago
I am SO late in getting this finished. All I have to do is quilt it. It is pinned and ready to go. But things keep coming up and I just can't seem to get back to it. Next Monday & Tuesday we are having the rest of our floors installed in the bedrooms & my sewing room. After that, for sure I am going to get this finished!! Sorry I'm such a slacker!

Debbie is right -- it will get finished. :) No worries!! It will still be a blessing when it's finished...that doesn't change. :)
