About Fabric Photography

Artful pictures of fabrics and textiles, whether used for home or fashion.

This group is directed at artful photography of textiles, pictures that really bring out the beauty of the fabrics under your camera lens.

There is no restriction whatsoever as to the kind of fabrics or textiles that may be included. Whether natural or synthetic, expensive silks or cheap cotton, all are welcome :) So long as your image shows the beauty of the fabric, even a piece of torn netting could be the star of the show!

On the other hand, it is not for pictures that simply display fabrics as raw materials for craft projects without caring how the fabrics themselves are to be captured and presented (there are plenty of craft groups around that serve the purpose of merely showcasing craft materials). It is also not for overtly fashion-oriented pictures where the point of the image is the overall outfit rather than the fabric per se (again, there are lots of fashion-oriented groups who can cater to such images).

Although this group does not require pre-approval for image submission, please note that the group admin (at the moment, just me) reserves the right to remove images that are deemed as not fitting with the spirit of the group, and/or that are simply too repetitive.

As this is a completely new group that was started just a couple of days ago (4 Feb 2010), I'd be grateful if you could help build this group by offering the following invites to pictures that fit with the spirit of the group that might have caught your eye:

And while there is no rule for commenting before contributing your images to this group, it would be really nice as well if we could comment on others' beautiful images of fabrics and textiles when we come across them in this pool. So with the help of lovely Karen (of Contemporary Embroidery), who kindly consented to having one of her wonderful images to be used as our group icon for this purpose, I have created a "Seen in" badge, as below:

As this is a very young group, I hope we can all help make this as varied and interesting a photo group as possible whilst remaining true to the subject.
